What's the model/brand of the chip? Was it in a VM or did you boot the CD on your PC?

It should auto configure for cable since there is no setup required, just like on windows. That's why I need to know the chipset so I can check the kernel modules.

On Windows I have to setup the connection.

Correction, it needs to be /sbin/lspci (full path)

What do you have to setup about the connection? In any case, you can setup the network via Computer > Control Center > Network Settings > overview (tab) > Select network card and click the edit button
