Does your warez forum require users to validae their email when they register or not? Which do you think is better?

Thanks.

Edit: "No, why?" meaning, explain why.

man that sux !!

although it have advantages and disadvantages :

advantages :

1) Due to this users will provide real email , so if there is any emergency u can contact them

2) Reducing Bots

disadvantages :

1) fuck off !! i will nvr register on a site which has email verification unless it is my friends site and so do every1

2) it will be a collection of Bots in the site

I dont remember nxt points (due to amnesia) sorry....

:p

and note that never keep email verification if u are low on traffic !! simple registration = more traffic :D

We used to make users verify their email before logging in, but no longer do it as the mail function on the server is not operational.

It is good in that:
- It reduces spambots
- Gives a community atmosphere to the user and that it's not a kids board
- Provides an easy way to contact members (those that use active emails)

It's bad in that:
- A lot of people just use a random email address that they don't check, you can't contact them at a later date
- If you ban a user, then they start marking all your emails you send them as phishing or spam which will eventually lead to mail providers automatically sending all emails you send out to junk folders. Plus your domain could be marked for spam etc.....

Yeah, loads of spam is avoided. Many people just register on loads of forums and keep posting topics multiple times by autoposters.
Most of them don't validate their account.

Nah, I prefer reCaptcha on registration and then an usergroup just like Probation here (captcha on posting, no PMs).

when i had no Validation , there was alot of Viagra Bots were in my Forum Spamming alot >.< but after Validation , real ppl comes now :)

I do not.

Reason:

I do not require activation as I run a proxy blocker so users CANNOT run "MOST" proxies to register on my site.

Users cannot register more than once per email AND per IP.

Bots are blocked because of my proxy blocker, and it also has a RANDOM question that bots cannot pickup answers to. (Soon to be a drop down menu one also)

DISADVANTAGES, users that have found proxies that work and disrespect the site can spam with multi accounts.

Validating E-Mail addresses prevents most users from making multiple accounts, and inflating your statistics. If a user sees that he or she has registered an account with their E-Mail address, then they'll request the user/password via a lost information form.

If you do not validate E-Mail addresses, there's no logical way for a user to recover their login information.

It does not stop bots. Bots can be intelligent enough to retrieve E-Mails from SMTP servers, and access the validation links. E-Mails can be predictable due to the minimal variety of forum software forum boards use. Captcha is the way to go there.
