VidHotel.com - The Videos of the Web, Together! (ololo & alluc alternative)

Nice site. Only problem I've noticed so far is sometimes thumbnails for links don't seem to get fetched. And some daily shows get detected as movies. It seems to be mostly the ones that don't really have a season/episode format but a date instead.

As for suggestions, it would be nice if you could increase image quality. Everything seems to default to 70 which results in noticeable artifacting. This is especially noticeable with user avatars etc. Another suggestion would be to provide an API for verified members. People that handle a lot of links tend to automate their workflow.

I'm also wondering if you have any plans to create a spinoff that focuses on adult content? Back in the day
Alluc had their Pron.tv daughter site. Ever since they shut down nobody has bothered to fill that void. Considering the traffic they had and the fact that adult content tends to generate significantly more profit I think it would be well worth it.

At any rate, GJ with the site so far.

Edit: some mixdrop links fail with "There was a problem with this video." even though the links themselves are fine.
Hey, many thanks for the extensive review. I've noticed you on WJ before, so I'd like to say it is somewhat of an honor having you in this thread.

As for the aforementioned points:
Labels: Work is to be done on those labels and thumbnails. Unfortunately some hosters do not allow fetching of thumbnails outside of api account.
Image quality: As soon as some targets are met, we'll be able to afford original image quality. Not so ideal now, have to admit.
Porn spinoff: The idea crossed my mind multiple times. However, due to the automated nature of this "web tool/project," I am truly afraid of bad content being shared. You can possibly guess the kind I'm talking about. Still haven't figured out how to ensure the prevention of said disallowed content. Any suggestions would be welcomed honestly.
Mixdrop issue: will contact mixdrop, hope they have the desire and or motivation to take a look at why that happens.

Would like to also take this moment to announce an update. Most of you have already experienced the new design, it has been live for a few days now. Here is the main update, explained:

Make the site your own:
VidHotel now allows verified users to share their channels totally independent of other user's videos on the site. In profile, there is a "share button," which gives you a link such a this one:
https://vidhotel.com/c/videofeed

This is the independent channel path to user "videofeed"! From which you cannot go back to the main site. The purpose here is for any uploader to be able to advertise their own portfolio without giving anyone else's videos any exposure, but have their videos in the main site as well. Win-win for those who do not own websites, but wish to promote their portfolio. In the channel visitors can browse and search only videos submitted by the user. In channels, the traffic you bring from social media or wherever else - remains your own!

Hi. How to add more than 20 links?
Contact us to get verified if you haven't already!
Hi,
Just great site.
Can you have search input on floating menu?
And a button click back to top maybe?
Will consider adding search area to the floater, as for the back button - it's currently left from the title (below embed)!

Do you mean they block HTTP requests to the video pages from your server/IP? Or is it a periodic issue like for example being faced with a CloudFlare page? I think you can ask them to whitelist your server's IP if that's the case.

Yeah that's always a concern of course. However, it's not exclusive to adult niches. For example someone could post that sort of stuff right now even though it's obviously not allowed. Or other bad content like IRL killings, violence, etc. The moment you accept any sort of user-submitted content you have to be willing to moderate one way or another, adult site or not.

The best way to deal with it would be to delegate moderation to some people you trust. Give them permission to "soft-delete" videos. By that I mean having an "active" or "deleted" boolean column in the DB instead of removing rows such that videos can be reactivated in case of mistakes or a rouge moderator. If you don't want to recruit content mods you could simply limit where you scrape videos from and who is allowed to submit links at all, similar to the current verification thing. Having a "report video" button would also be a great idea. That way you could automatically hide/soft-delete videos after x amount of reports. And last but not least, a lot of that sort of content can be automatically detected based on certain keywords in the title. A bad actor might get clever with titles but in doing so they'd make their videos unsearchable anyway.

TL;DR: just do what other adult sites do. As long as your ToS makes it clear that it's not allowed/tolerated and reported content gets dealt with you're good.

Evoload as a supported host?
Not as of yet, but it has now been added to the list.

You have a point. If there indeed is demand for a porn version of vidhotel, I will take a much more detailed look at solving my concern. Maybe if I had a group of trusted verified users, then It'd be easier to entrust the tool to those people rather than fearing the worst with just the random submission option.

P.S. I thought about inspecting the title, but the bigger such a website gets, the more people will be interested in circumventing the rule by manipulating titles. (as you rightfully pointed out)

Honestly I doubt it's as big of an issue as you might think. People who want to post that sort of garbage will seek out places that ignore, tolerate or encourage it because like any other person they're not going to be interested in wasting time and effort. A large part of that concern is already taken care of for you because 99% of the video hosts out there will delete such videos and ban accounts the minute they spot it, and you're not self-hosting any videos. So just by only allowing videos from a limited amount of sources/hosts like you're doing with VidHotel you'd already be fairly safe in that regard.

You're right. As soon as I'm fully satisfied with VidHotel I'll get on it.

Would you happen to have any further suggestions for supported video hosts?

Vidlox.me comes to mind. They've been around for a long time now. Maybe clipwatching.com/aparat.cam after they are handed over to the new owner at the end of the month, assuming they get rid of the embed redirection thing and reduce the ad spam.

Hey.

Playtube isn't supported. As for doodstream, can you share an example link you were trying to submit?

As for thumbs, titles and categories, they are not editable. The idea is to make it as convenient as possible. (Admittedly accuracy is still to be desired)!

doodstream links are only accepted with this doostream.com/xxxxxxxxx format

Also sorry if it has been asked before, but is doodstream supported too?
