Hello,
I'm too new to this hosting thing, just want to get some knowledge about it so that I can start on my new project soon.

I'm currently using blogger and people keep saying that you should switch to wordpress but I feel wordpress a bit typical. I need to buy hosting if I switch my current sites to blogger and I'm confused in selecting the best hosting provider.

Actually, I don't want to switch my current sites to wordpress but I'm planning to start a new site very soon and I want it to be hosted on wordpress this time.

I saw many of the sites are hosted with hostgator because they have Unlimited Disk space with Unlimited Bandwidth. I'm thinking to try out their service but I don't really understand what does the term 'unlimited bandwidth' means in hosting thing. Please suggest me something that I don't have to look for a new hosting provider every month! And also explain me what is the difference between Web hosting and VPS hosting?

I know, I'm such a noob!

"unlimited bandwidth" Means there is a hidden limit that if you hit they will suspend you hitting, Everytime someone says "unlimited" its a flat out lie. They will have the actual limit in there TOS (usually)

Hostgator is ok i guess but there servers are painfully slow.

If it's Wordpress and you don't have too many visitors - not much, maybe not even 200GB per month. Depends if there are lots of images etc hosted, but still.

It's not compulsory to buy hosting for Wordpress. You can join wordpress.com and use their hosting as well for your website and enjoy the benefits of the Wordpress platform. And whenever you feel that you need more control over your website, you can any time switch to private hosting.

unlimited or unmetered plans have no limits necesarry.. there are tons of hosts who offer unlimited bandwidth.. how about voxility or fdcservers? no hidden caps or limits... the bandwidth is not dedicated, but it IS unlimited..

The first thing you need to know, There is no such thing as unlimited
yeah? and how is that you offer unlimited traffic and email accounts? :)

Remember to check the Fair Usage policy.
The worst thing you can do is go for a host which offers you unlimited disk space or bandwidth. I would rather go for limited ones and know my limits rather take the risk of being suspended on a host offering unlimited stuff.

DLow is not trying to scam people calm yourselves, He is doing exactly what i said most hosts do and he clearly states it.

Unlimited and unmetered are two diffrent things.. Unlimited means there is usually some form of limit (again that should be stated in their TOS)

Thank you for your help guys!
Any review for bluehost? :)

Dont get bluehost even if it's for free!!! They've got stupid policies, they also deleted my databases because they exceeded their limit.
They do offer unlimited databases but the total tables you have are limited, and I happened to exceed that and they deleted my databases.

Personally I would stay away from unlimited hosting, it isn't as great as you may think.

A virtual private server is a slice of a dedicated server, sometimes depending on the virtualization you can be isolated from other users, however OpenVZ does not do that, Xen does.

Shared hosting you are on one server with several other users, you can be effected if others are abusing the node, spam blacklists etc, however if the server is maintained properly you can use shared hosting without a problem and not be effected by other users.

I always say to try a host really to see if they are the best, too many review sites are paid by hosts to list them
