Should I use cloudflare?

I am planning to create a new site. I am planning to use Cloudflare for it, however can someone tell me what exactly will it help me protect? I am aware it gives DDoS protection but don't know if it helps in anything else.
I am using shared hosting, is there anything much I can do to protect my site from hackers?

Cloudflare free plan does not have ddos protection the free plan is only for CDN and blocking bad ips that is it

You can't upgrade or patch apache, php, openssl... by yourself if using share host.
If security is first, go dedicated server or at least vps.

Yes, you can use cloudflare.
It`s a good solution if you just need a CDN and it`s even better lets say if you need protection for your server.
For example, with PRO plan(cost money) you can get protection against DDOS attacks. The attackers can not find your server ip so they can not attack directly your server ip.

If security is your top concern, at least you should go for a VPS, VPS's are cheap nowadays but provide flexibility. You should also use additional security tools to increase further security.
