Now you learn your lesson and start taking backups on regular basis. Hopefully the host does and they'll recover, otherwise you're screwed.

i agree with RT , ps ask your host they have your old backup!!!
and move to your host secure shared hosting provider
like Shineservers, knsrv, wrzhost they are trusted and secure shared hosting providers
good support and no lost worry

Those words get repeated every SINGLE time :(

Any updates from staff/ idea of backups?

I guess every host keep the backup's but its not duty of host to keep it ? Taking backup's will not harm , there are many ways you can use that will automatically backup your site if you are not willing to do .

You may check https://www.comcure.com/ , that's amazing tool around which will take your website backup automatically in every 24hrs . Even if your site get any problem just use their restore tool and it will revert your site to latest backup they have . It's free for 1 website and based on cloud . I recommend this method because many of us are having important files over our hosting space , some personal/professional/work/scripts and many other things , so better asking your host for your backup just step up and take advantage of some utilities like this .

Unless a host advertise they keep regular backups you should not relay on them. Many hosts do take weekly backup but when you ask them to restore they may deny and you can argue with them either. If the backup is paid and offsite then you can depend on the host however I would still say keeping atleast one copy of backup at your local machine per 15 days is not big deal. Nobody know what would happen next day.

website back online , and backup, everything works fine :D nice job PrismHost

Yes it has worked out well now :)
Most of the clients have recovered their accounts and issued new hosting accounts and we will be compensating all of the hosting clients by the end of this week(information to which will be mailed soon) because of the inconvenience caused.
