How can I optimize wordpress?

I have VPS 750mb ram with apache. Ive tested with loader.io and after abou 80 clients per second it starts crashing and boom, no more. Simple website on same server can take even 1000 clients.

get rid of apache and use nginx

2:
activate nginx caching (google a bit how to do this)

use plugins like w3total cache

perhaps use s.th. like cloudflare (if you really need to - on personal experience, this will only do a good thing, if you got lots of visitors which are located far away from your servers - eg. nl server and japanese clients)

I think cloudflare would make a huge difference in this case, it is also very easy to setup.

Is it database server or the webserver which is crashing?

try using php5-xcache module

it will cache the repeating executions.

it reduces your CPU load.
