Something that replaces Flash and is not closed source would be nice, but I don't think this will happen in near future :-(

No , i think the HTML5 can replace Adobe Flash but jquery is just for simple effets but HTML5 can play videos and we can developpe games with it

jQuery / HTML 5 has a long way to go but it'll get there, Flash is slowly becoming obsolete.

Creating basic 2D games in HTML 5 / Javascript isn't as difficult and annoying as you would think it is, API's like Impact make it an easy process.

No the two don't and can't compete.

You should be asking if HTML5 has replaced Flash, not if JQuery has.
The answer is still no though.

HTML5 competes directly with Flash, not jQuery. Even if you talk about jQuery replacing some applications of flash like image galleries, etc., it's not jQuery alone doing it, other frameworks like YUI and MooTools are doing it too. I think Flash is already becoming less common around the web and in a few years from now it might even become obsolete. Even if it would continue to exist it won't be the first choice of web developers as most of what can be done in Flash might be supported by HTML/CSS/JS without the need of a premium software or much of a training.

The quality of whatever the material may be depends on how skilled the coder is. I use Flash, therefore I prefer Flash.
