Are you really a webmaster?

The duties of the webmaster may include ensuring that the web servers, hardware and software are operating accurately, designing the website, generating and revising web pages, replying to user comments, and examining traffic through the site.

So, you do not have to know any languages or maintain your own box, to be a webmaster.

The strongest webmaster is the one who correctly delegates. This webmaster does not pawn off tasks randomly, but he does it in a way that allows the person to succeed, and in the long run, they succeed together.
 
Well, since i own a private server, manage it and have a certain "Computer Science" degree, i think im considered a real webmaster..! -_-
 
Although I do agree with the orginal post I also disagree. Why complain if its your job? If they learned you wouldnt have anything to do. How ever yes if everyone learned at least html before making a site im sure it would help cut down your tickets.

Also to thread creater: Nice rant except you forgot the fact that nearly everyone who first starts their own site has no clue and has never heard of php before, you complain about people opening tickets? It's called a job, if you don't like it leave, gosh people

Most of them are stupid install errors or just simple syntax errors that take 2 seconds to trouble shoot. Hell even stupid permission erorrs.

Before you go and host a site PLEASE learn the Basics of the language your script is running for example PHP.
Think about it. When your site fucks up do you really want to depend on a ass hole like me to fix it?

Any idiot can register a .com and install a script on your rented server.

THERE IS ALOT MORE INVOLVED THO.
So sit back and learn some shit instead of depending on others

When you can run your site without the support of other you will then be considered a webmaster.

THE only time you should contact others is when you dont have certain permission to do a needed task. Even tho this can be avoided by full access to a dedicated or VS
