To be honest 99 out of 100 people are not ..
I work tech support at a hosting company and have to deal with tickets all day.
Most of them are stupid install errors or just simple syntax errors that take 2 seconds to trouble shoot. Hell even stupid permission erorrs.

Before you go and host a site PLEASE learn the Basics of the language your script is running for example PHP.
Think about it. When your site fucks up do you really want to depend on a ass hole like me to fix it?

Any idiot can register a .com and install a script on your rented server.

THERE IS ALOT MORE INVOLVED THO.
So sit back and learn some shit instead of depending on others

When you can run your site without the support of other you will then be considered a webmaster.

THE only time you should contact others is when you dont have certain permission to do a needed task. Even tho this can be avoided by full access to a dedicated or VS

Thats true theres alot of "wannabe webmasters", everyone should know atleast basic stuff before starting website.
Its not about installing script setting database and chillax and get $....

You would be out a job with out n00bs running around.
 
I used to be. I used to run a business (a real one, not I run a hosting 'company' and I'm 13 years old hosting under 50 sites) and I actually tried more. Now my offline business keeps me busy. I usually set scripts up out of the box. Make simple layout changes and pay the hosting bill. I hardly even promote sites anymore. I don't need to make anything off them.
 
i lernt the hard way? but thats just me i just read loads and came to sites like this
mine is phpbb3, i was a pc engineer, repairs networking that kind of shit it got boring so i messed with html and stuff now i no a lot but im no expert, id say if there was marks out of ten id be a 6.5 to 7 lol

Well some people think if you own & operate a website your considered a webmaster. So knock yourself out. But speaking for myself I still have alot to learn of course as many others do which is the beauty of it all. Knowledge is power and the internet is an unlimited universe of intel. My at home business keeps me busy learning new things each day, But as far as websites at the moment i kind of threw in the towel and lost interest. Ill pick it back up soon again but out of a 1-10 id grade myself a decent 6. I know id be superior at what I do if i took out the time to get into it more. Computers and Internet is and will always be my passion (y)
 
Everyone can't figure out things like you do. So they seek help. I agree with you but you are kinda saying that they should not ask any questions =/

Like, if you want some help in visual basic, then you might ask jayfella or hyperz or someone else. For them it might be a really easy job. But you were unaware about the solution even after "learning" visual basic so won't you ask someone about it?

I totally agree that those guys don't know such easy stuffs like setting permissions to a file and stuffs as simple as that but they are still learning. They might not even having an idea wtf is chmod >.< I myself didn't know what it was long time back. I had to figure it out myself l8r but yeah, its kinda tough when you are a nub <_< :p
