We're just following the money. You simply don't have the right to generate profits from content that was not created by you. Fortunately for us, laws on the books in the US are designed to protect media creators. And pretty much all the infrastructure of the internet runs through Reston, Virginia... located in the US. Google AdSense, JuicyAds, Black Label Ads... all located in the US. Let's not forget about Paypal, and VISA & Mastercard.
Piracy itself is not what we're seeking to solve. Even you said it yourself... you're only in this because you're making a mega-ass-ton of cash by selling works that were not created by you. So you understand the root of the problem.
As soon as the funding of the piracy enterprise is gone, 95% of it will come grinding to a halt. Sure you'll always have the ability to sell a disk to your neighbor or coworker if that's your thing. Like you said, piracy can't be stopped.
I think what we can all get excited about is bringing back the sustainability of the media creation industry. I believe it's a noble cause that will benefit everyone. We're doing this so when you decide to create some amazing content on your own, you'll actually be able to make money from it too.
