About server ram

Hello,

I want to buy a vps server which allow 256mb ram. so is it enough to run an ipb forum and a phpbb3 forum?

I am not completely sure. I would think yes, but they can't be massive forums, small ones will be ok. Why not just add on some ram?

Id probably recommend 512mb at the least.

I think he was telling the thread starter to get 512mb ram, not you.

But he is right. I would not suggest anything less than 1 gig for a site that is going to grow quickly.

and IPB isn't light as vBulletin and he need to run another phpbb3 forum, surely he want bigger ram than 256MB.

256MB will be enough for a phpbb3 forum alone.
Since you're gonna run an iPB one as well, get 768MB-1GB, as IPB is a resource hog.

I'm not any expert but from experience I can give advice.

One thing I do agree with you with is shell access is better than Cpanel, but some people like the ease of clicking a button instead of typing the commands.

Actually, IPB is a lot lighter and less resource demanding then vBulletin out of the box.

Get 1Gig at least mate.. RAM is a lot cheaper these days then it was 2 years, 3 months and 10 hours back :D
