Hello to all.

Hey guys, I would like to start a hosting company.

I really don't know how it works, but I would like to start selling the service in my city (of course world wide too).

I was thinking maybe I could start re-selling or some like that.

I need advices about how to start and what I need to start the business.

How to deal with the domain names and how to earn money by selling them.

I don't know if it's a good idea to start re-selling, in case it is then what company should I use to re-sell?

Thanks in advance.

If you do not have enough $$$ to get 3 or 4 good dedicated server a some type of security then your out of luck. You will need $1500 to $5000 a month to run a web host

Hi, you just want to resell, contact hosts that suit your for a reseller account. You have 2 options: either buy a block of resources to divide OR to resell existing products.

You'll still need to pay for the domain, billing etc yourself though.

1. You need a domain, maybe try a domain generation tool for your desired keywords: http://domaingroovy.com/
2. Billing software, a very good and cheap solution is WHMCS
3. If you wish to resell dedicated servers it's ok since you do not need to have stock. But if you will offer money back guarantee, you need a host offering the same.
4. For VPS reselling you can simply look for a host offering white-label, this way you do not need to buy a server and pay for it every month.

I hope this helps.

I don't recommend you to start something like that, if you really want it you will need to invest a lot of time into understanding the whole business. It's not a step by step tutorial.

So where is that $1500 to $5000 coming from monthly? xD

All you need is a start capital, let's say $1000 to start with. Then get customers and get profit.

Qarizma is Right , i have start hosting business before 4 month i spend much money to buy servers but not easy to get customer if u have much money then u can do otherwise its up to u

You need some small amount of money!
1.Buy a domain and a reselling host.
2.Buy a Billing software like WHMCS. You can also use BoxBilling(Free).
3.Setup your WHM and WHMCS properly.
4.Use any hosting css templates which you like.
5.Finally sell your product!

Webhosting is like any business, knowledge and experience are key. The suggestions others have mentioned are good for the basic infrastructure, but there is much more involved too in the day-to-day operations. If you really want to succeed consider working for an established hosting provider for a while before you start your business - that way you'll be getting paid while you learn about the industry.

I think that is completely wrong. All small companies only need a reseller... these are only $10-20 a month depending on the plan. You do NOT need to start off with 4 dedicated servers and need $5000 capital to start.

Don't listen to him ^_^

You seem to not know much about hosting... A single dedicated server and very common sense knowledge of how to secure and optimize the server should be good enough to start.

Your right and wrong. I hope your hosting is not run off of somebody's reseller accounts because then what if that host disappears what will you do to save those clients money and sites? Your pretty much just taking peoples money and paying 1/10 of what your getting paid.

CHEAPSKATES DONT MAKE IT IN THE HOSTING INDUSTRY

Your wrong, Way way way Wrong

DLow your smart, but dumb sometimes ;) how can you provide hosting if your single server purchased from kimsufi gets flooded with sign up's. People will soon experience AOL speeds on your hosting.

Honestly you will need a fair amount even 500$ can cut it. So long as you don't shove 200+ people on a 100mbit server and expect it will be fine. You need to know what your hosting, How many you expect to host, What you are gonna want to offer in features, etc.. All this affects the amount needed to start a host.

I don't use kimsufi just for hosting I have two servers at ovh one for hosting one for backups another at secured server and another one coming up next week.

I never said everything I had was kimsufi just that I've used that range if servers from ovh :)

This is simple go to Elcatel or Leaswebs and get a reseller account and start selling. If get any thing bad happen put all blame on DC and run with the money. Trust me on WJ I saw 100s of sites doing that same thing over and over.

It really depends on what you host.

If you are going to host legitimate small businesses and local blogger sites, then you can cram hundreds, if not THOUSANDS of websites on the server.

If you are hosting forums, warez or any kind of active website then even 100 is probably too many.

Know your market and get what is appropriate for them. And charge what is appropriate.

Small business, personal blogs and fan sites in our experience tend to be the best as they have very little requirements, tend not to cause any trouble and allow for very high density.

Realistically, a re-seller plan from a reliable/reputable company and a decent billing system is all you will need for the above type of clients. That and a little know-how in getting things going. Monthly costs would not run more than $50 /month for a starter plan and if you have the technical skills to do so, you need only spend the time to build your website and brand and go out there and get some customers.

Upgrade your services as you grow. You can quickly move to a a managed VPS and still have monthly fees less than US$100 /month and have much greater capacity and control than a typical re seller.

If you're an 'idiot' (excuse my language), then no matter how much money you have to throw at this, you won't get very far. Hosting's biggest expense is actually the man power that drives the business, and if you don't have the knowledge/experience to do this then you will be doomed to fail. With that in mind, reseller plans require the least amount of knowledge/experience so starting there is good as you get the benefit of another company managing the servers. You can learn as you grow. You've got to crawl before you can walk.
