I am just interested to see how many people really know what classes hosting as offshore.

Please post your reasons below!

"All hosting is offshore provided you are not in the same country as you are hosting in"

That os the correct definition howeaver either a or b is required generally.

Hmm, I suppose so, although

A country that does have copyright laws, but the don't follow them.

You still have Anti-Piracy groups like brein that will appear out of thin air and tear a Datacentre in half.

It makes me laugh how people are going from NL to Germany, Singapore due to brein... And I have seen somewhere on here; The reason being "It's more offshore"...

There is no such thing as 'no legal issues' with offshore related activity.

You are correct, but you have less chance of being shut down than in places such as USA, Uk etc

its only a matter of time before people like brein get to Germany,Hong Kong etc

90% of DMCA complains recieved are fake ( well thats what i have found) but they are still going to try and scare you into removing what they want.

You have more change in Hong Kong and Germany etc unlike other places now.

But like i said it will be a matter of time untill we will be looking for a new location.

Well,

DMCA complaints are still in hongkong, I cannot see why people are saying you can host anything.

It just bugs me.

Damn, your all too good at this.

I also wanted to add.

Option B is wrong, all countries have some form of copyright law that they have to stick to.

They may turn 'a blind eye', but that's not them ignoring their own laws, if somebody points out copyrighted content by a dcma complains then they will still have to remove it.

Yes, off shore means that it is not hosted in your country.
But when people say "Yeah, we are hosted 'off shore'" they generally mean that it's not hosted in the US, right?
Reason why I think that is, as Storming said, your more likely to get taken down in the US than anywhere else. (Including the UK, whatever.)

I could be wrong but this is how I understand it :)

i am not going to answer the poll.

This because i see the "service called offshore hosting" as a hosting company that has it's servers in a country where copyright laws are not being executed.

This is ofcourse not the real answer to the question but just my view on offshore hosting and what i would be looking for if i needed it.

Afghanistan, Laos and the Marshall Islands have apparently no known copyright laws.

Offshore is just hosting in a country you don't reside in.

Though there can technically be true offshore hosting, meaning servers located on a ship or platform such as an oil rig.

Which is also why most oversold shared hosts are wrong half the time. They advertise as offshore but are only offshore to the owner and a percentage of the customer base, not everyone.
