That's one damn bad news, the "merge" with Bing is the reason behind this shut down, and hopefully Bing now comes up with something like this. YSE has been the best tool for competitor backlink analysis so far; there are still the paid ones out there but YSE has been the most used and most trusted. Google has no such tool at all(link: domain.com query sucks we all know). Google Webmaster tools shows backlinks of only sites that you own.
Same with Paid tools like Majestic SEO which have loads of limitations for Free users.

I had also read that this merge of sorts was going to occur. Where one door closes another will open. Too bad YSE will lose its teeth for back linking analysis.
