WJunction Mobile Design Ideas (Got talent?)

Why not just switch to IPB completely rather than continuing to rip and copy ideas from it. They are stopping support for this version of vBulletin anyway and version 4 is a waste of time. I'm not sure if your aware but one of the staff members (and I'm pretty sure it was elj for reasons I won't go into) had an IPB Version of WJunction on another domain. It worked great, looked cool, had loads of great features and IPB comes with a great mobile skin already so only a small bit of colour change would be needed.

I second that, and just want to emphasize on the whole "this version is reaching eol".
I've been seeing more advanced webmasters switch over to ipb in the last 6 months and there's a reason for it.

I don't disagree, from the research I've done IPB is probably a better upgrade path than vBulletin. But in order to switch software it's a massive job and one that I'd want to get perfect. No matter what it's going to upset members, some people just don't like change.

If we're on vBulletin for 3 month, 6 months, 12 months longer... Creating this Mobile skin is worth it IMO. I am not too bothered about EOL, the software is stable. Having said that I don't want to be on it forever.

How about we trial a already made mobile skin for Vbulletin? because I'm sure we have a wide selection of mobiles us members can test it on :)

Myself I have a Blackberry and a HTC HD2.

I don't think theres a need to switch to IPB to be honest. People are used to this forum the way it is plus switching to IPB means everyone will have to reset password, that may not sound hard but trust me you lose members when stuff like this happens.

(just for the lulz)

I think people are stuck in the bubble that they need to stick to the current design, colors, etc. They're not putting "effort" into the design as they should. Anyone can scale an image down and make small edits for a mobile site. Take a look at most mobile sites; no resemblance to the original design what so ever. I will try to find time to have a go at this but I suggest people going out of the box a little.

Yes is a massive job, but i think long term it would be a good idea to do it, as ipb are innovating, while vBulletin are dieing and imitating.

I agree it will upset some members becuase people don't like change, but the longer it is left the more they think it can just stay how it is, and they still wont like change 3 months, even 2 years down the line, so might aswell get it over with now... IPB 3 offers some great features not just for members but mods aswell, for members the PM system is much nicer instead of 50 thousand pms where you have a conversation with the same persion its stored as one conversation.

The thing if people really like this skin so much then you could always get the skin converted over to ipb aswell and it can be called WJ V1 or something...

If you dont want converting to IPB to be a massive pain, then they offer a conversion service, so while you are sleeping or working etc there profesionals can do it, which means no stress for you, when you come on you have a nicely working ipb forum.

Just an update: Things are going along well, I am still working on some concepts... Spent a lot of time on it actually. I am hoping to have some coding started within a week or so.
