Hello fellow WJunction members. Whoo is here again with a brand new unique website that as far as I know, never has been made before. The website has been completely coded by myself. I decided to post in this section to get some good reviews, and possible some suggestions too.

When the website opens you may think that it's just an ordinary DDL site, but it isn't ;) I have coded a complete system which allows downloads to be added. Everything added there is posted manually.

Features:

  • Users can submit downloads: Once I check and approve them, they go live on the main page.
  • Full BBCode support: Because a lot of people are used to posting on forums I decided to add the ability of making posts with BBCode support. If you see the submit page you can see that there are alot of BBCode tags supported which makes it easier for the posters to add their downloads.
  • Comment system: Whoo.ws also holds a comment system which allows the visitors and/or uploaders post a message below any download they wish to comment on. The submission of this comment is handled via AJAX. This will be improved in the future.
  • Report System: When you click on a download you will see that in the right column any visitor has the ability to report a download if something is wrong with it. I can then see it in the admin panel and possibly, if needed, correct the download and/or remove it.
  • IMDB Information Crawler: When viewing any movie download, at the top of the post you will see a box with the title of the movie. When you click on it (and wait a bit) , information is gathered and shown from IMDB.
  • Automatic image resizing: In order to keep the layout nice, I have made sure that all images within the post are resized so that everything looks normal.
  • Report System: I have added an AJAX-like report system that allows the users to report certain downloads. (If you check the "other" option a text field enables itself :P)

I have added the feature that on acceptance it auto searches for filehosts and adds the proper tags.

UPDATE2 (31/03):
The last few days I have been working really hard on adding new features to Whoo.ws to make the site even more unique.
A list of the recent updates:

  • Created a standalone posters that allows the uploaders to submit posts to Whoo.ws from their desktop. (See the Whoo.ws Tools page)
  • Added a news page that is accessible from the bottom of every page. All the latest updates and news regarding the website will be put here to keep everyone updated about the developments.
  • Added the ability to sort the download table, click on a header on the index page (eg Type/Download Name) and you will see that everything sorts itself.
  • Added a feature so downloads can be filtered by type (this works on every page). Simple select the type you want to filter out from the dropdown list on the index page and everything is updated without the page needing to reload (AJAX!).
  • Also: This document was successfully checked as XHTML 1.0 Transitional!

The logo looks nice and fits in with the background, only problem in my opinion is I don't like the white background around the submissions, should be a different color as white stands out too much.
 
It's always good to see something new and unique, The design is nice and simple and I like it, Looking forward to post in there, Nice work (y).
 
Really good whoo

Having seen it throughout the development, I can tell you it was definately worth the hours you put in :P
 
Looks nice, but i'd personally prefer a different colour theme.
Logo needs improvement.
Get a favicon.

Overall, its great for starting off, just needs some finishing touches here and there ;)
+ add an image-resize mod or something for larger images.
 
I really like the concept its a good idea this has great potential to be something really good

Suggestions:

no favicon every site should have a fav icon
Their are a few good JavaScript link checkers i think you should install one of them :)
Im not to keen on the black at the bottom i think it kinda clashes with the rest of the colors
The banner is top notch and fits really well with the skin

sorry im no pro at reviewing but hope that helped other than that nice work and i wish you all the best of luck with the site (not that you are going to need it ) :P
 
i like it ...
the design is not friendly i think you have to change the grey color use larger font size ?
however it looks nice i ll start using it ..

We've been talking about an hour or so about that white background, he has tried many options, and white was the best imo.

I like the designe.
Change the logo but keep the slogan and the general idea of the logo..(upqrade the logo to make it look better)
 
few suggestions.

Buttons to sort by category, like apps, movies, ect

Favicon?

Better skin (maybe same version but different color, it looks ugly imo, so maybe a skin selector)
 
- make the logo clickable
- Sort by apps, movies, ect only (for each category)
- Maybe top downloads page for each section

I like the new theme and favicon
 
zomg, that logo and favicon pwn.. I wonder who made them 8-)

make the logo clickable, instead of using css add a <div> overlay with hyperlink ;)
