I smell an arguement coming unless JmZ mis-understood m0zillas thread. Does www/without www. really matter? But I prefer it with www. :/

Google doesn't make a big deal about which you use.
Using either won't be detrimental to your listings.

Nowadays, it's purely cosmetic. (ie; how you like it.)

Technically www is a subdomain, however, as UltimA previously stated Google doesnt make a deal out of it, as a matter of fact, nobody makes a big deal out of it, since you cant really point domain.com to one address and www to another. So hence www is considered part of the main domain rather than a subdomain.

It just depends on the owner of the site, what they prefer.

hmm i might just stick with out the www.

and this is coming to be an interesting topic

The problem with that is users can login to your forum using either www.domain.com or domain.com this causes you cookie problems with logins. if you run vbulletin (not sure about the rest of the forum types) and you use domain.com without the www then put www. infront of your url and see what happenes to your logged in status it will be reverted. So by making it www.domain.com always (you must setup .htaccess its quite simple) then you have no cookie troubles with people logging in because it will always be www.domain.com not half of your users logging in as www.domain.com and the other half domain.com

hmm i might go www. thanks man for that

switching over now

EDIT: will this stuff up katz submittions???

Your Katz submittions will be fine the url will go from domain.com to www.domain.com that's about all the thread will display the same etc.. only difference is you have elimitated the cookie/login problem for users :)

Yeah, technically www is a subdomain, although it has become so standard, that it doesn't matter. Although, if you remove .htaccess, and remove any redirects, www.site.com and site.com will take you to two completely different places, as site.com can take you to the public_html directory, and www.site.com will take you to the www directory. (Which, both are normally synced, but in some cases you can change this)

I'm a bit confused, Some people say www.domain.com = domain and other's say its a sub domain. UltimA could you please clarify which one is true please.

Many thanks.

Yeah, like already posted... a SIMPLE google search solves this :P

+1, Explained Perfectly.

If you redirected it so that your site by default goes to www, then yes, google will start indexing it that way.
As for those results, I do not believe they will change.
