I see this a heap when websites go offline or something and this image always pops up. Its currently happening to http://movienation.org/ Does a company just buy dead domains and put those ads on them or something??

Its domain expired and it happens on every site if their Domain Expires.

Well what happens is that when the domain expires, usually most of the times it is either bought by another person, or the same hosting company buys it, so that you could get it at a higher price back from them.

They also do earn from that, as when you click on those links when you go to that site, they earn via that..
