Reading thru the site feedbacks, i saw a request for a webmasters status, so I was wondering, What makes a site owner a "Webmaster"?

I have alot of comments on this, but, you guys go first

Webmaster - Owns the site, owns the domain, usually pays for server.
Admin/Mods - Work with webmaster (which in turn is an Admin himself), but not necessarily owns anything.

We should really have 6 type of groups now. WJunction is big enough for this.

I agree with Golden Falcon :D

ok,
Is the guy that gets someone to put up his board or use Fantasico to install it,has to rely on host to move it, cant even install mods/graphics without payed help a "webmaster"?.

Or is the guy that installs it/codes it,moves it from host to host, does his own security, does his own gfx ,and actually has a crew on the same level?

Just looking to define the meaning, not Wjunction related,IMO should be two groups, "Site Owner" and "Webmaster"

This is IMO way more deeper than that. I wouldn't really call a webmaster some kiddo who just discovered the internet, leeched first DDL script he found and put it on the cheapest shared hosting he could allow from his pocket money.

True, but if you own the domain, your pretty much a webmaster. No matter how shitty your site is.

but you have a point, maybe we'll call it the Webmasters rank, but only "good" webmasters will join? 8-)

edit: what loki said is good too, we can go that route.

Whatever we decide, its definitely worth a look. We need to seperate actual site owners/admins from regular members who don't have sites. After all this is what this site was designed for.

For my site, we have the admins handle different things. I maintain the server, hosting, & security. My other admin updates the plugins, vBulletin, and mods. My other admin does the GFX and makes our custom skin! And my last admin does basic things. But, I own the domain, vB license, and pay for the servers! All I know for sure is that we have the same knowledge. So, who basically will get the status? Most sites work as a team and rely on each of thier admins.

I own a website, I own the domain and I pay for the host, that makes me a webmaster?
ANSWER: No, that does not make you a webmaster.

A real webmaster takes care of hist website, try to have less ads (if possible no ads) and takes care of his community and all the members :)

Don't 100% agree with that. Webmasters do the work period...no matter how little or how much. You think Hugh Hefner is a Webmaster? Site owners with money pay for webmasters in some cases.

Wiki
The webmaster (portmanteau of web and Postmaster), also called the web architect, the web developer, the site author, the website administrator, or (informally) the webmeister, is the person responsible for designing, developing, marketing, or maintaining a website. On community websites, webmasters are able to change and manipulate any comment that the users make.
