Problem with RDP is that you can't install any software, unless you are admin, and, however you want it, you cannot go over your HOME connection, you can't download file faster than that, so, it's best option to upload it to filehost, and download it
as above many have said use a filehost
or
buy a ftp hosting account from http://www.drivehq.com/ftp/ etc many providers are there and most probably your rdp should have ftp client or you can download a portable ver of filezilla
If you have admin rights setup Filezilla Server :D and then jst use filezilla on your local server to connect to your RDP via FTP/SFTP
You can transfer files directly from RDP, just drag from RDP and drop to your desktop but in my experience that connection breaks a lot.
You don't have to buy anything, just tell your admin that you would wan't a FTP for the RDP and then you can simply download directly from your RDP and the connection will be stable.
1. clik RDC but dont connect first
2. click Options > Local Resources > see Local diveces and resource click "More"
3. You pick any source you want from HDD,flash drive, or mmc and then click OK
thats its now you can Connect to RDC like usuall. see what Drive has connect to your RDC.
if you want to download or upload to your RDC or PC just copy paste the file and its works like download and uploading file. takes time depend on your net speed
What I do at school is, run TeamViewer (runs as portable application, no admin access required) and select the connection type as File Transfer then it acts as a regular FTP server.
