I just recently got photoshop and have been playing around making graphics following tuts etc.
but the other day i decided to make my own sig it turned out okay although I can't seem to make the text + the graphic to blend. The text always looks awkward so does anyone have any tips for choosing text/fonts to match a graphic?

You need to have patience learning from the tutorials, just do some more works and slowly you will cope up with these things.

Try using the PSD files provided from the tutorials, this way it will help you some basic ideas of matching the text and colour.

Set the text layer to overlay, change the opacity to your needs.

Just a method to take care of the blending. ;)

But yeah, keep experimenting. I'm not a pro either! xD

Use dafont.com to find suitable (free) fonts to use, just browse through the most popular ones and download ones you think will be useful. Play around with the layer styles, blending options, filters, etc... You could also find some signature tutorials (from pixel2life, psdtuts, ...) which also show you how they blend the text, but its better to figure it out yourself by trying different combinations of text effects, filters, adjustment layers, etc.

Comes with practice. When making a sig, try to make sure you dont add the text last. Also try and use similiar colors/clipping masks.

Once you know the basic tips, its just trial and error
