SoftLayer Servers - HDD Raid

Hey Guys ,

Got a server with softlayer for quite some time but i'm in need of more space .

Most of their servers have 2*500gb HDD and since i use linux i can use only 1 HDD and the alternate are a bit costly .

2TB = $60/mo , RAID 0 = $50/mo

The Raid 0 , i have been wondering about the cost as most providers do it for free . ( i believe there are 2 type , one by using external equipment & Soft Raid 0 )


I use CentOS 5 32-bit , Is there any way i can add the 2 HDD in raid 0 ( soft ) by myself ?

Use LVM instead of Raid0. LVM creates a logical array to which you can add/remove drives without having to rebuild the array.

Google will help you on how to build the array on linux.

I believe software Raid 0 would slow down your cpu, unless you have a powerful one?
