Hey,
My site was always in top 10 in google search, but after the 3 days downtime (vps issues) my site is not even in top 30 anymore.

Anyone know what to do to get back in top 10?

If you wait a little while longer it will probably come back. Google dance.

Unless of course you did something with on-page or off-page seo that would make such a significant impact..

add content and stop backlinks

Stop backlinks? That's the most ridiculous SEO comment I've ever heard.
Google dance? Even more ridiculous.

To know why you lost your authority, you already have the answer, what happened to your site.

Simply, google saw your site as unavailable (dropping 404s), and took your authority from you. Nothing to do with Google Dance.

GD is when google still measure, where to put your site in search results, so, in first hour after publishing some post, you can be on page one, first result, and after 10 minutes, to be 3 pages back. It's happening, because there's other higher authority sites, writing same thing as you, and google gives them advantage, as older, and more reliable sources, and puts you in the back.

To can get your authority back, but you need few stronger backlinks, from high authority sites in your niche. Try facebook, youtube, maybe edu sites with higher PR. It depends on your niche, where you can post your backlinks.

Also, traffic usually returns after 10 - 15 days after google rechecks your site after downtime.

So, patience, my young padawan. It's hard to achieve good results in SERPs, but very easy to lose your status. You can even get your status back, just by keeping your site online.
