Scalable Self-Hosting Storage Solutions – Alternatives to Unreliable Filehosters?

I’m honestly getting fed up with the current Video filehoster situation.
It feels like the same few operators keep relaunching the same unreliable platforms under different names — full of upload errors, downtime, poor performance — and when you finally pick one, they disappear or wipe your files.

I run a well-visited movie and series site and would really like to host my own files to become independent from all these unstable filehosters.
The idea is to finance storage through ads, but it also needs to be scalable, since I’m dealing with a growing amount of data.

The challenge:
I need a storage solution that’s
  • still cost-efficient / profitable,
  • scalable (from terabytes ),
  • located in a country where the account won’t just get deleted overnight,
  • and allows for a certain level of privacy or anonymity.
At this point, I’m just out of ideas on how to set this up without going broke.
Does anyone have suggestions, experiences, or creative setups for reliable and affordable storage or self-hosting options (like custom storage clusters, offshore hosting, or decentralized systems)?

Any solid advice would be appreciated.

You are right at most of the points, why don't you make it some hard decision and buy your own server and make your own video hosting site for long lasting project instead of relaying on dependent servers. Just a opinion in regards of your needs.
 
Yeah, that’s actually the idea I’ve been considering as well — running my own servers and fully hosting everything myself.
The only thing is, I don’t really have hands-on experience with how it performs when, say, 100 or more people are watching the same video at once.

Would that still run smoothly, or does performance start dropping fast?
I’m wondering if such a setup is really practical, or if you’d immediately need a CDN or load-balancing solution — which again makes it expensive.

Or am I overthinking it?
Has anyone here real experience running self-hosted streaming servers under heavy load?

You are not overthinking, If you have sufficient funds - I suggest you to meet some local companies in your country to develop website and core application and deployment for you so all will be in your hand, because for beginners to drop heavy amount into any new unknown person online for your new project will be risky for you. so Plan, Evaluate, Invest, Test, Deploy, and Launch

Hosting in my own country isn’t really an option.
As I mentioned before, I’m running a movie and series site — and anonymity is basically impossible within Europe.
Once authorities start following the money trail, the whole project would be over.

That’s why services like AWS, Google Cloud, or other EU-based providers are not suitable for me.
I’m more interested in offshore hosting, for example in Russia, Moldova, or similar countries, where there’s still a bit more flexibility and less interference.

Do you (or anyone else here) happen to have specific suggestions for reliable and affordable storage solutions in those regions?
Something that can handle large data volumes, is scalable, and works well for video hosting or streaming?

Network cost: EUR 60 for 300TB on 10G

So, first 12 months: EUR 738
