Hi,

Noticed we've got ranks of Coders, Members for Respected. What about 'Designers' ie Graphics, Artists, etc.

'Designers' also play a large role in web dev/design, so why not?

Benefits, would show which gfx artists are 'considered' to be good, so users know who to hire/contract etc.

This has being discussed several times before. Their are a few reasons.

With respected coders security is very important. If you use a script from a respected coder you know care has been taken to ensure it is safe to use and install. Quiet a lot of warez related scripts can have vulnerabilities or malicious files enclosed which is the reason for the respected coders rank. It is near impossible for someone to join the respected coders rank if their scripts are poorly coded.
The same security issues aren't present in graphic artists or designers as you can't have a vulnerability in a psd file or jpeg image.

Another issue is art is a personal opinion. With coding it's more of a case or right or wrong. Sure their are personal styles of coding but it's more a case of good code and bad code. The GFX I like may not be to someone else's taste which makes the GFX rank more difficult.

One of the main other issue I have with such a rank is personal gain. Most of the good graphic designers charge for their work while coders generally tend to release more stuff for free. Having a designer rank would basically be a licence or permission for the graphic designers to charge more for their services. Most of the coders in the respected coders rank do not do custom coding and generally do more free open source stuff. For example I've released about 12-13 free WCDDL Modules for free in the last few weeks.

There are more reasons not to have the rank than have it.
 
But happy there are designers also who give out tons of freestuff. Example coolboys used to do shit loads of free stuff for others. I am not saying to judge them but it would just be a token of appreciation to them for taking out time for the community. I mean, its not a designer's fault that his work is not judged by right or wrong. If they are good then we should respect/award them.
 
Yes Gfxers are not appreciated anywhere, Its been like this from ages. Gfxer's use their creative mind and come up with uniqueness all time. But they are not given any kind of appreciation.
Not hurt you coders but i say coding doesn't need creative and uniqueness.

The important phrase in your reply is used to. Believe me if there are people on WJ who are helpful and give out free stuff to genuinely help others then they'll be rewarded in time and promoted to a Respected group like you yourself were. If their are people giving out free stuff to gain a reputation to earn money long term they won't find themselves in a respected group.

@hulkman such a statement about creativity and uniqueness shows how little you know about it. Their are many different forms of creativity. Their is creativity in cooking mixing flavors and presenting, creativity in writing, creativity in gardening, in designing a dress, in creating a powerpoint presentation, in designing a building, in painting, in acting, in sculpting even in coding. Not many know but I started out doing GFX and spent 5 years in college studying designing and still work on Photoshop daily in my real life job. Creativity comes in many different ways and isn't just limited to Photoshop.

I just dont mean to say photoshop here,I man all kinds of graphics. I am just comparing here only gfx and coding nothing else. i just feel, Gfxer needs to be more creative than a coder. I know that both are proportional to each other

too bad no one is given respected rank anymore

... i mean CA was the last promoted.. and all he had to do was spam the intro section.

defiantly needs to be a look at the people with ranks (filehosts, respected, etc.)
 
There aren't many good designers here to be honest, most here are average compared to some professionals out there. Only good/unique designer I've seen on wj was Elio, and hes no more amongst us, at least not with his original account.
 
Kind of pathetic to see a lot of people saying there aren't any good designers, as no one asked you if there are or aren't good designers on WJ. That being said, I don't think this idea is a good one as art/design is subjective, not objective like coding.

As for elio being unique, well, lol...

im sure there are a few good designers, but to be completely honest, none of them seem to want to work lol. Every time i look for a designer, all i get is constant "wait wait wait" and in the end get nothing. I have yet to see any graphics guy that I would truly vouch for.
 
Because there's no money it, at least not here. Do you think a legit designer will bother for a whole $2? That's the problem with the internet, and WJunction in particular - people expect cheap work which is not at worth it.
