I have been given an infraction for replying to a thread from December.

My question to the community mods (rather than send lots of PMs), Can you justify giving an infraction to a thread that's 3 months old, unanswered and still open? Even if it's a constructive and informative reply? It's not as if I'm bumping old topics for the hell of it...

If this is a problem - you should really go through all the old threads and close them all so nobody can reply, as I'm sure I'm not the only person to have done this.

It's just, I get the impression that the moderators (that could be considered verging on turning into Nazi's) are getting a little power happy.

I will not name the MOD who has been giving me infractions, he know's who he is :)

Anywho, that's all I wanted to see
See Ya!

yup as OJ said it like wj gets traffic from google,so if useful it good or else mods must consider them self to close the topic before anyone bumps it

Strongly disagree with giving infractions for bumping old threads if it's relevant and of good quality.

Google loves sites who update old content and keep things current. It's the sign of an active and well managed site. 90% of sites don't update old content which is annoying when you find it in Google. eg think of a warez site and dead links. Doesn't it piss you off it's not updated and kept current?

Google has a freshness algorithm that ranks newer content higher. By adding new relevant content to an existing topic that topic appears much higher up search results.

The other thing is these old topic that are updated regularly are seen as more important by Google. Why would a topic be bumped if it's not interesting or still relevant? A discussion going on for a number of years must be more interesting that one going on for three days.

People hate finding old unanswered threads. If you have a problem and find an old question but it's not answered you get a very bad impression of the site.

Quality content is what matters. It doesn't matter the age. If the content is relevant and of a high quality it should be posted.

I honestly think that yes I didn't see the day - Hell, I'm not even sure how I found that thread! I think it was on the threads similar to this one bit at the bottom.

Anywho - I think that the infraction given to me was done in an unfair way and as it's my first mistake I should at least be given a warning and at the very least an opportunity to correct my mistake.

I would like to make a request that my infraction is revoked.

P.S thanks for the reply Mr H, I am glad to see I'm not the only person on here with some common sense.

in this case for me Rox is correct becaz this reply is made to a thread where the subject domain (reviewthathost.com) is dead so reply for this kind theard may mislead the members

Well if nobody is allowed to reply to it why didn't a MOD close it?

I am being penalised for something that was an honest mistake.

Yate, it's just an infraction, can't you just let it go? I'm sure Rox will take it easy with the infractions after seeing what most people think about bumping old threads.

Philosophy is like this, old threads are like minefields, as long as you don't say anything in there, and move along, you are safe. They aren't closed, so mods can infract you, in case you decide you wanna say something there...

I've been said same thing...it's just an infraction, move...

No, it's just an old topic, nothing else, nothing to do with breaking any common sense rules. And when it comes to my case, I've bumped it, because someone dropped topic link in cb,when realized I made a post on an old thread, not even apologizing was enough. Someone had a bad day, and felt, that no matter I've realized that I made mistake, it was absolutely necessary to make his point across, and punish me with infraction.
OJ saw me replying in that topic, saw that I made mistake, and replied in same topic after me, but he never bothered punishing me, or considering it was a bad act, bad behavior, or similar shit, that other mod found.

It's just an infraction man, so just let it go.. As, you already proved your point and most of the senior members are on your side.. So, be cool and let it go man ! ;) move ahead :D

Loll thanks for proving a point Yate, now I'm sure the rest of us wont get infracted as easily. Once of course the reply is relevant. But since I joined WJunction I've never received an infraction/warning/ban(I think) yet lol.

Well if nobody is allowed to reply to it why didn't a MOD close it?

If you really have a problem with people replying to Old Threads, why not just fucking close them?

Well, it would become very difficult almost impossible to close each and every thread for everyone.

But bumping should be allowed to an extent:

  • Disallowed if bumped for a reason like TLK did http://www.wjunction.com/1410756-post7.htm. In no way, it is helping WJ
  • Disallowed for a reason like in case of OP. 2 year old thread and the content is outdated. What Rox did is right in my view
  • Allowed only if the content helps other member or is informative for the current time. For eg: Bumping a thread from Tutorials section which can help other members should be allowed or something like the eLight's thread of So, what comes after File Hosts?
Also, i would like to suggest a mod/plugin that wjunction could add to prevent possibilities like this in future. Something like what Warez-BB has.

So if a thread is more then 2 months old, then it should show a notification while replying in Quick Reply + in the full reply page.

I agree to your point, but in this case what i did was correct.

I dont care if you all cry! Coz he bumped a giveaway thread which is two years old plus the site (reviewthathost.com) was dead too!

@ Yate
Did you not see that the website was out of business when you replied? Just because it was a giveaway you blindly posted some comments without seeing the thread date/that the site is down! Is that not sufficient for an infraction?

Grow up dude! Seriously....

@ All those crying
We MODs cannot monitor each and every topic! When you say - "Why not fucking close it", we say - "Why not fucking report them? :-? "
