Hello wj cummers,

I have missed most of the last quiz night and got really upset, in order to fix this issue I would like to suggest a countdown clock that will appear 2-3 days before the next quiz night to remind people who browse wj that there is one.

In my own opinion it is a great feature to get more people participate in the quiz other then the regular guys.

I will post a wj front page overlay image with a clock in it to give people the idea of how I think this should look.

I sure would like to hear other people opinion about this and maybe suggest how to get done such a clock in the most efficient way.

The idea is good but the countdown placement doesnt look good,

A simple php countdown can be implemented here :

Countdown can be placed inside the red box

I know it displays the thread title but i think this can be an easy hack to implement and will look better

What's the point in having countdown clock, if you forgot about it, and you aren't online? If you are on, you have a clock on the bottom of your desktop, you can follow it to know when is the time.

Just saying. I'll see if it's worth implementing with staff.

My thinking is that it looks cool as hell. Plus it's informative. It's a great thing, the Quiz night that WJunction has now. We shouldn't hide it and stuff it away. We should emphasize it in whatever way we can. It's just one of those things that makes us a little different from the other guy.

If members find it obtrusive of course there will be the ability to collapse the countdown.

The point for having a clock imo, is to achieve 3 goals at the same "time".

1. Remind people of the quiz by putting the clock in front of their nose.
2. Glorify a one of kind feature in WJ that I personally didn't see anywhere else
3. Get sponsors to show interest in this kind of ad that will show 48-72h before the quiz (Here I disagree with To0 about the 24h period before the quiz as I think it should be 72h before), and get them to present high quality prizes for members who win the quiz.

I'll have a sample code+design by tomorrow for staff to revision.

Why dont we just create a thread and send out a email 12-24 hours before this starts?

We can have a flashy reminder on the main page all we want, but if your not home, at work or some where else how are you supposed to know?

keep it simple, a reminder thread and email.
