I don't know much of how VB works in regards of sitemaps, but is far as I can tell the problem comes fr the plugin/addon called vBSEO. Maybe try to upgrade the plugin if upgrade is avaliable or use another plugin.

What is the url inside you sitemap with or without "www" ?

May be Google may encountered an error to accessing your sitemap.Try to check whether it can be accessed at the location you provided and then resubmit again and again for few times.Hope it will work.

act sometime, it works perfect but sometime it does show error...

so its pretty confusing

Yeah it is very confusing.I too didn't get the answer why it happened again and again.Sometimes only resubmitting can work.I too wondered.

http://www.yourdomaincom/sitemaps.xml.gz then check you site map open clearly ?

There seems to be something wrong with your sitemap. Google crawler might not be able to access it or something. Delete the sitemap and try resubmitting it again. If the problem persists then contact the guys at Google and tell them about this problem.
