40 Clients on a 100Mbps server using Rapidleech, overselling or not?

devilmaycry thinks that this is perfect and that it's definately not overselling. I disagreed with him and he wouldn't stop the discussion in the shoutbox so now I'm interested to see what other members think about this.

I also asked him not to vote but he was the 1st person to vote lmao.

The thing is that when you think that of the 40 people hosted on the server there are only 2-3 online at the same time then you aren't being realistic.

well ya its true,, 100mbps servers are ready crap! i had earlier got that from ND, and i had just got 17 clients (4 or 5 of warez hosting) and the server load got fucked! speed went down too much and i got loathed with lots of complains.

I know that if that much is not fitted than no one would have profit, cause a server cost about 200$ with cpanel and all even though its 100mbps, and if just 10 clients is fitted it would be a fail business, so that should be a concern too..

It all depends on:

- the number of people online and if they 'behave well'
- the specs of the server and the connection

Imagine it's a I7 920 server (for around $250) and sells 40 clients x US$5 (the average for RL) then the business would not be worthwhile, while the server might hold up pretty well.

But then again 40x$5 = 200$ and the server costs around $250 you would have $50 in loss every month so that's not even worth starting a business.

Also you can't guarantee the number of people online at a single moment, it would be bad to suspend them for using the service too much. If I would get Rapidleech hosting I would require to be able to use the service whenever I want for as long as I won't, not for just 5 minutes.

40 Users on a box would only allows each person to use it for around 36 minutes if they only allow 1 active user, 72 minutes for 2 active users and 108 minutes per day if only 3 users active at the same moment.
