Need some big help with the direction of my website

Hey guys, I am really stuck and coming at you with ideas. Sorry if this is the wrong section of the website but I am really looking for advice and help with this as I am close to giving up this project and I have invested quite a lot of time and money.


Anyway the site is http://www.tocachat.com and let me try to some it up, it is like a discussion board for literally anything. You can post any sort of media like videos , pictures, links and you can create topics about anything such as David Beckham, email marketing etc.


So anyway with my work the site is getting about 50 hits a day, mainly from google.


However my main problem is getting people to post and join. Obviously the site has no niche and is general, this is a webmaster forum so people join who are webmasters, even though i have related topics, I don't have a niche.




A few questions;


1) How could I get more traffic
2) How can I get people to post, join the community and help me out?
3) Any other ideas? Criticise, what I am doing wrong?

Discussion boards usually use some kind of forum softwares which you're not using. You have a blog style site which does not encourage real discussion like the ones that take place here on WJunction. Try changing to a forum software. Also, promote your site on Facebook, Twitter, Google Plus, Pinterest, Reddit and Digg - these are the real traffic pullers for discussion boards such as yours.

Post interesting content, ask your visitors questions which interest them to join your site and take part in the discussions. That's all i can think of at the moment. Will write again if i get more ideas.

hey there, sorry i haven't got back sooner, currently i am swamped with another project.

I am not too up for changing the entire architecture of the site seeing as I have invested a lot but I am happy to adapt to a more forum like approach, you have a good point there. I will change the design to adapt to this.

Also how would you suggest with the social media marketing? I guess the usual create a page etc but would you suggest anything else? facebook comments for example? I have share buttons on there. What else should I do?
