Hi There
so there's this moderator on one of the forums. He threatens me of hacking my pc and email address and my accounts. The guy has my IP address as I am a member there and I am kinda new to this. We had a fight about 5 months ago on email and he hacked my email without me receiving any files from him so I believe it's not a backdoored exe. Now he PMs me again saying that he's gonna do it one more time so please if anyone can explain how I can protect myself it would really help me.

Which domain do you use for your email ?
Gtalk ? Yahoo ?
Make sure you have a Strong password and change your security questions and your secondary emails. He wont be able to hack you .

tell all this to the admin of that forum
 
use good antivirus like Kaspersky Internet Security 2012 for a start, change your password for all the accounts, change the secondary email addresses, change security questions whose answers are not available in your face book or social networking sites , use mobile verification for any changes made to your email account (settings page). Beware of iStealer (read on google). Stay a little cautious.

Then tell me if he can hack you. ;)
 
Hmm! No one would be so much genious that he would be able to hack your account without bruteforcing/sending virus in google

Anyway, i believe that your computer has a virus (still has). Virus must be fud (Some fuds work for 7+ months)

Here are the steps which you should follow:

  • First of all format your pc (Take no risk in it , a complete format would be good)
  • Change password of accounts which you want to safe
  • Never use same password of important sites on different forums which you dont trust (he might have added keylogger in any of the forum he owns)
  • For passwords, use hard passwords maybe generate from http://wgtools.com/pass-generator/ and length should be 10+ so that it wont be easily crackable
  • Last but not the least, Use Good Antivirus and scan your whole computer once in a week :)
I hope it will help you! Dont even reply to the hacker until you have followed above steps After that just show your middle finger to him :))

Let me ask you, did you actually used the same password on your email accounts AND on his forum?
If you did, it's pretty much explained. I dont know if all major forum's CMS are using salted passwords, but if they use MD5 encryption only, it's kinda useless in most cases - specially in those cases where the password is 'MaryJane', 'qwerty' and so on.
