You would be supprised PHPBB actually is used on the most forums,
But Obviously it can't compare to vBulletin/IPB which is used by most companies nowadays looking at the feature comparison you can see why.

Got to say vBulletin is the most used on the scene and by companies,

PHPBB is for the first timers/novices (& warez-bb).
