I'm making a new site dedicated to music only. I'm a musician myself and a huge music buff :)

So I'm making these for the fans (offcourse all threads will be viewable by guests, no forced registration crap).

I need help in creating the category tree though.

Any ideas please reply.

I would definately group some categories like
Rap/RnB/Hip-Hop/Reggea
Rock/Punk/Metal/...

Since you shoudln't do a seperate category for every genre...
 
OK Well now that I'm at home I jotted a few ideas on paper which were:

New Artists
Urban Music
Pop Music
Rock Music
Dance Music
New & Forthcoming Releases
Tips & Tricks
Dedicated section to music software only.

Studio:
Open Mic - Member's post their lyrics here.
Home made songs - Member's show their 'home made songs'.
____
Name that tune - Member's who need to know what the tune is called etc post here.
Top USA Charts - Keep them updated!
Top UK Charts - Keep them updated!

Oh and make sure you have a wadio, IMO i think all music sites should have one!

But it might stretch the forum out to much.
 
Hmm reminds me of my old forum, waste that it's gone. Shame.

I like your split download, however i would really have a good look on catorizing all basic genres. Wikipedia alot, and never get frustrated by it once people are posting. It's difficult, but you should not let yourself get crazy by all the music genres.

If you need help im willing to give.
