It's easy to install stuff, use an IM client like Pidgin - most distros come with some form of extraction program, so just download the rar add ons FTP has all ready been addressed :P

What I don't like about just about any distro out there, including *buntu and SUSE, is that although they include a lot of useful apps there's a lot of more important stuff missing. Unrar, subpixel font rendering for LCD's, MS Fonts, restricted codecs. All of these are nearly always missing so a lot of stuff doesn't seem to work out of the box.

One of the main ideas I have is to include as much of these as possible and leaving out big apps like The GIMP and OpenOffice etc so that for example you can download a movie and play it without having to figure out how to install codecs. VLC will also be there :).
 
I need recommendations for a default video and audio player, anyone?
I know enough programs but I want to know which you guys prefer (note that VLC has already been included).
 
Very nice, to be honest if you already added VLC then nothing else is needed, imho VLC pwns most players, maybe KM?

Are you going to target warez users only with that or webmasters too? if so, how about some tools for webmasters? ie: editor (scite), ftp, basically to reduce the use of Terminal for not so expert users.

Home page for browser should be like a table with most popular scene sites? scene news feed widget on desktop?

All in all, great idea.
 
KMPlayer is nice but for KDE, LiveW is Gnome. There is Gnome-MPlayer though based on MPlayer but I'm not sure how it compares to KMPlayer since I always use MPlayer directly.

Yeh I know Elj, but VLC is not as good for specific tasks. Like Amarok for example.
 
I mostly use VLC, so wouldn't know tbh.

Can't really think of anything else, wow didn't know warez world is not that demanding lol, give them a download/upload options, browser and you're done.

I guess you'll just need to think of fancy stuff to add.

The main focus is warez users, AKA leechers. But stuff for webmasters will be in there to since the plan is to use it myself aswell once I finish the stable build.

Good idea for the homepage btw :).
 
Regarding "uploader tools", that is something that will depend on whoever makes those tools. I can make some stuff near the end but I can't create like 10 tools which will each take a month to create.
 
Awesome, can't wait for the "final" release, yet another Linux OS I'm waiting for lol, will you install any extra packages? (curl instead of wget [sudo apt-get install curl], samba smbfs/cifs [to share]...etc).
 
How dare you apt-get in a SUSE-based OS :o, zypper :p. I'm not sure about curl etc, I will add as much stuff as possible but the budget is 650 MB so I have to be careful and see what space is left after all main stuff is in there.

Also I wouldn't expect to much of it for a start, in the beginning this will mainly be Linux for warez users, so nothing really flashy or anything. But it will save people a good deal of time (Boot CD -> download warez -> run warez), package manager = evil for "noobs".

Oh ye, I was planning on adding wine to btw with playonlinux!
 
lol @ zypper, and fair enough, keep it up, can't wait.

If you make a full project out of this, ie: site/support I'll be more than happy to donate to help you with it. I support open source projects, fully.

About size limit, you can remove many things from there, like default applications installed, ie: Abi instead of OpenOffice, remove all email apps, and add thunderbird.
