Once upon a time it was vBulletin however now anyone who says vBulletin is stuck in the past or isn't experienced enough to see the superior framework in IPB 3.
vBulletin is very inefficient and if your site get's large you'll really see it's search destroy your server particularly with vB4.

I currently use IPB. Its particularly good because extending your subscription only costs $25 and vB costs alot more.

I run mine with an opcode cache in play (APC), and on a quad-core server with 4gb ram the load is never above 1.00.

EDIT: But vB has far more mods to choose from and I have always been interested in testing it. I'm sure with a good webserver config I could get it running as smoothly as IPB.

Thank you :))

IPB is my choice ;)

I think vBulletin looks a lot better but I think IPB is more secure. I'm very picky on how things look and I don't like the way IPB looks at all. So vB for me :).

If you're talking about the default themes, then I think thats a poor feature to base judgement off. Both IPB and vB have a multitude of free and premium skins available to change the style of each board. Added to the fact, they pretty much mirror each other with features these days.

After a huge battle with phpBB3 I picked VB for my main forum.

What a sweet surprise. The MODS are a piece of cake. No crossed eyes, scrolling through tons of code for hours to find the reason the mod did not work is because that you left out a ( or a ,

IPB? cant remember the last time I used it.
