vBulletin 3.6 baby.

I've tried 3.7, and 3.8, and to be quite honest they suck.
It's full of useless features that I'd never enable, thus it's more useless code to slow it all down.
Never tried IPB 3.x, so I can't comment on that.
 
I agree with UltimA, the 3.6 series kicked some serious ass, those were the days.. xD

I have tried vBulletin, IPB, phpBB, SMF and MyBB in the past, order of best to worst:
vBulletin
phpBB
IPB
MyBB
SMF
 
I can't believe someone actually said that IPB uses more resources than vB. IPB is heavier, but it's definitely not as greedy as vB. vB might have way more mods, but most of them are one timer(install, use, forget). I will disagree about vB having better design as well. vB is strong-weight, IPB light-weight. As uncomfortable IPB gets when it comes to warez forums(dealing with posting loads of content.) I still like it more than vB. And vB is as mentioned more complicated as well.

Still, both are great. Both have they good/bad sides.
 
Depends, IPB has a more simple interface and etc, making it easier to use, but installing mods is a bitch.

vB is just for the gods, meaning you need to know what your doing on vB and it offers a lot more security and etc, plus the skins aren't all too bad, even though IPB skins do dominate them.

i disagree vb could not be any simpler. in fact i know its easier then ipb. ipb skins are definitley dom, cept great ones you see like warez-centre.com skin are customized not bought. im not pleased with most vb skins, although alot of paid ones are very nice.

i also disagree with you on the security tip about vb, i think vb is less secure. but to be honest it depends on the owner.

VB is less secure. Just look at the zero day exploits for VB and for IPB. IPB is more light weight. IPB 3.x is gonna pawn VB's ass. IPB > VB.
 
It's easier to pwn vBulletin forum , than IPB forum. If you want secured forum use IPB , if you want forum with good template and loads of mods. Use vBulletin.
 
I've been thinking, in the past when i had a vBulletin licence, any mod i downloaded from vb.org if it had a flaw or exploit, you would emailed about it, which i think is half the problem with most sites getting screwed over, they see mods install them and won't know if it's fucked or not.

So moral of the story, either buy a licence or share an account with someone on vB.org.
