I made warez site only coz i wanted to make one.:D
To date i haven't earned more than $10 from my site and i don't even care to earn.
I pay hosting costs out of my pocket, but still doesn't matter ;)
I am glad, i met new friends and learn't a lot :)
I just want to make a better , well known site.

Tho i plan to start non-warez money making projects sooner (By sooner i mean may be next year or so :P)

Well im not a web master but im an uploader so, I voted hobby because i've been uploading for almost a year and that was to Rapidshare only but now i mirror to hotfile just to try and make some $

I just like sharing my uploads, I don't really care if my site makes money, if I did it would be full of ad banners. It has one.

Thats the thing I don't get, Why are people in it for the money as I don't think I've met anyone who runs a warez site that has made money, well made any respectable amount of money from a warez site.

the reason you have never seen yourself or anyone you know earn from warez is because they are not capable of earning. Most are 12-16 year olds and just because they slap on a few adbrite or videosz ads. that doesn't mean they will start making $1000 immediately. earning money whether from warez or legal, takes time and takes work.

people who can't earn, are the ones who take it up as a hobby. these type of webmasters won't last long (more than 2-3 years) as their server bills keep increasing they wouldn't be able to cover their overheads. but people who can find a popular niche they are able to dominate and starts getting the $$$, will get addicted to it. in the long run they are able to keep their site running. people can't dish out $100s or $1000s each and every month just for a hobby, thats life, so no point in denying it.

That is if you're assuming that every hobbyist wants to get his site WBB sized... Personally I couldn't care less about how many uniques/day, posts, members my site has. As long as there is activity I'm happy. And quite frankly should I reach a point where hosting is about to become to expensive I'd disable new registrations and reduce DDL submissions to keep costs (and size) acceptable.

Small 'n manageable > large and chaotic/expensive IMO. Besides, if you think about it there's nothing to gain from a big warez board if you're not after profit or want to sell it for a crazy sum of $. So in a way your statement is incorrect because a person doing it purely as a hobby doesn't (or shouldn't) care about size AND money.

well im not lying

HELL YEAH HAND OVER ALL YOUR MONEY BIZATCHES

I'm in it for fun + I don't like being a member on other forums because most admins hate me and end up banning me + I am in it for money

It goes like this:

Hate other forums because admins
For fun
Money

Even though money is last it is one of the main factors

If I sought no money in it what so ever I wouldn't of opened up a site

I make warez site because i started to learn web designing before one year and wants to know better and i found the easy way to understand PHP and other things was to make a site and then do all of my practice and warez was my hobby so i made a warez site. The money would be next step not from warez but making some good stuff like Hyperz and other coders around here. :)

it started as a hobby for me too and it still is. havent earned A LOT so wont be able to say if im in it for the money or not. lets see what happens in the future....if my earnings increase then it might change my intentions B-)
