Here's my latest project, had this idea a few times over the last several years so figured it's about time I coded it.

ImgTrack - The Image Multi-Hoster & Tracker

What is it?

The primary aim of ImgTrack is to allow you to upload an image to multiple hosts and rotate through the links until all are dead (if ever).
It can be used simply as a multi-hoster or it can be used for the tracking/rotation purposes to keep your images alive.

Many of us have had images removed in the past due to various issues (bandwidth, terms/conditions, legalities, etc), this service will drastically reduce the probability of that causing problems/happening.

How does it work?

Simple, you upload your image through ImgTrack, select the hosts to store it on and get a special tracking link back.

When linking to your image, you then use the newly created link rather than the image host links. We will redirect to the first working url out of the selected hosts and, if one is removed, we will automatically fall back to one of the other hosts.

So here's a simpler summary of it:
  • Upload an image
  • Select n hosts
  • Use resulting link
  • This link redirects to the first host
  • If the first host removes your image, the link detects this and redirects to the second host
  • This continues until there are no sources remaining [1]

[1] = A 404 image will be displayed when no sources remain

Direct, Hotlink & Normal

When you upload an image, we will provide you with 3 different links as follows:
  • Direct: Redirects to the first working host [1]
  • Hotlink: Redirects to the first working host which supports hotlinking (use this for embedding) [2]
  • Normal: Loads the view page on ImgTrack containing the two above links

[1] = A 404 image will appear when no sources remain
[2] = A 404 image will appear if there are no hosts in the stack which support hotlinking

If you signup, you can track all your images along with their raw hits and bandwidth usage.

Signing up also gives you the ability to delete uploaded images.
Deleting an image will delete it from ImgTrack and all image hosts.

BETA

This is a beta, you must remember that. There are still features to be completed and bugs may occur.

If you find any bugs or issues, simply send me a PM on here or post in this thread.

You may also contact me to suggest a host to be added to the selection.

Speed

The current server it is hosted on is low spec, please do expect slow speeds occasionally when uploading until the project is out of beta. Once out of beta, it will be relocated to a larger server with a far higher quality network.

Future Features

The following are still being developed and will be released soon:
  • Public API for integration in your own applications

Thanks to the following people
  • Gaurav (big help with the design)
  • Jesse (general chit-chat and suggestions)

Also the following people who were in the private beta:
  • Bharat
  • chemicalx
  • DJboutit
  • Froomple
  • Gevin
  • msk19994
  • praveer
  • putme.org

Actually, this sounds really good. Lot of image hosts come and go and people end up with having ton of 404 errors for those images.

Good job and good luck dawg!

EDIT: Some suggestions, add more image hosts if possible and Remote Upload would be really useful, but you're already coding that...

Glad you like it.

I'm working on the remote upload feature as we speak, shouldn't be too difficult to implement.
I should imagine it'll be done by tomorrow.

This is assuming imagehost sites delete inactive images. Maybe rotating the hosts of the image every refresh + detecting if the image is dead would be better.

true, you do have a point.

it isn't difficult to implement a sort of rotation in there so i'll take a look tomorrow. thanks for the suggestion, much appreciated :)

Also as an FYI, remote uploads are now enabled.

@jmz, i think you have something special here and it can go somewhere, I wish you the best of luck.

Here is another suggestion, it would be nice if imgtrack "remembered" which image host I chose the first time. This way users wouldn't have to checkmark the image hosts they want every upload.

Thanks for the suggestion beebee, i'll work on adding it at some point :)

It is on my todo list now.

w00t! I made the thanks :D

maybe like a preference options page

preferences page would work well, better than just storing it automatically.

will take a look at that tomorrow, should be simple enough.

Great idea.

Thanks for this.

I remember 1-2 yrs ago when tinypic mass deleted their database of uploaded pics. Caused heaps of problems and then lulzimg came along at this time and owners promised that what happened to tinypic would never happen to lulzimg. It's part of the reason why i think it took off. that we all believed Lulzimg would be there for the longhaul. promises were broken.

this idea would solve a heap of problems.

1) add fastpic.ru
2) multiple image select in normal upload
3) Multi links in remote url upload
4) Add one cloud host (google drive or box or dropbox or skydrive) upload to users direct account (adding login detail in panel)
5) if possible geo stats to images, sure it suits the name track too

::::EDIT::::
6) in home page a small banner showing hits of yesterday and today :)

1 - will add it soon

2 & 3 - will likely be added in future but not yet

4 - Will be added when the ability to save your accounts for hosts is added

5 - The whole stats system will be replaced soon with more accurate tracking, this will come with it.

6 - This'll rely on #5

Fastpic.ru has been added FYI, seems to be working fine (do note that it doesn't have a 'remove' feature so removing an image in your panel will not remove it from fastpic).

thanks for adding fastpic.ru..

I believe fastpic is the #1 free imagehost without any condition

Imgur = gay host, they don't care about free user in peak time (Don't trust this) and most of the images don't load automatically (so free user don't trust imgur, and they delete dmca + 60 days deletion time)

Imageshack = Site owner have to register there, so we need to change our images for few forums , because sites banned imageshack due to it's rational behaviour on cover images [only Last 500 images are there]

Fastpic = only minus point it is in russia, but they don't cheat us... try and feel
