Ideas for WJ Marketing!

Hello everyone, we want to make sure WJ gets all the good webmasters on board to share the experience and cater to even broader crowd of web entrepreneurs, we never did much of marketing but this is the time we are looking to expand more and this where i`d like to hear your ideas & innovations in the marketing field! Show us your creativity ;)

How would you market WJ?

Personally I would NOT market WJ at all.

My reason is there are too many "Cowboys" on here now, marketing/advertising would only increase those.
 
Before you start marketing you should really consider making a few rules that I see every where else, but not here - without these, you'll only get new people registering but they won't come back:

1. You need a VIP section for users who contribute their time making WJ better - either thru posting or being helpful, etc.. These users would get things like larger inbox, larger avatar, custom title, hidden VIP forum - As VIP, they would be expected to greet all new intro's (each intro should have at least 5 posts from members saying hi and welcome), stay active and follow the rules. Once a month, go thru the VIP and demote anyone not greeting at least a few intros a week or being good members.

2. Give some members (maybe Respected members or certain VIP) the ability to mod the chat box. The mods do a great job, but there are periods where no one is on and chaos reigns. Modding the Chatbox is a full time job - there should be several people doing it.

3. Theres nothing wrong with joking around, but sayin GTFO to new members who say hi, or just ignoring them (this happens all the time) is really rude. Mods shouldn't allow flaming and abuse anywhere on the site, unless its clear joking. I have been the subject of abusive flaming and I've even done it a tiny bit...and its been perfectly fine with staff, and it really shouldn't be.

4. We need a sun smiley like this:

It depends, you can't go look for designers, developers, and mainstream webmasters as they're not ok with the warez thing. (in case you didn't know, which I'm sure you did - most of our webmasters here run warez sites) However, I'm pretty sure something could be worked out that would attract successful warez webmasters.

  1. come clean - what i mean is that make it a webmaster only forum.its easier that way.give more importance to things related to a webmaster than a uploader
  2. Socialize the site-new users can register via facebook or twiterr.present users can connect to their facebook,twitter account.
  3. make a blog at wjunction.com/blog or blog.wjunction.com. it should contain a general summary(weekly/monthly) of the site.what i mean is not stats,but
  4. remove bad threads like those NSFW kinda threads.they dont go well on a webmaster forum
 
Well , there are many things , that should gona be remove from Wj , first a fall as p2p4ever said , there r some threads which r just waste in web masters forum , so removing them will be a great step ... and its basically a webmaster forum so let it be clean and simple ... about new members we should obey them , and try to attract them, add donation button on Wj , Add vip system or something similar to it like mindy said so that u can get pricing also ;) and there are really some members who r really deserving to be respected and devoted there much time on Wj , ... Give chance to new members ..

If this was made into a non warez related webmaster only forum myself and many others would simply leave.. There are tons of much larger "webmaster" sites where warez talk is not allowed.. And to be perfectly honest if not for the allowing of warez talk/advertising this site would of never done as well in the first place...
 
As for Mindy's VIP idea well it sorta already exists. Members who contribute a lot are made respected and have access to a hidden area. I can't say much more on that but that most of what Mindy said exists but it could probably be expanded to include a few more. EDIT: It should never be based on donations though.

Are you interested in more uploaders or webmasters? Warez is not an issue. I'd love to see more of a focus on webmasters. If your marketing is going to be aimed at more money hungry kids with poor English looking to make money from uploading then please don't bother.
It's a bit unclear who you want more of. All adverts and new forum areas are file host, money making and uploading related. I want to see more of a push and focus on webmasters even just warez related webmasters of which their are thousands.
 
In my opinion,a verification system would do more than good to WJ,what i mean is assigning certain mods to verify members by calling through skype or by an ID proof.....i'm sure this will reduce the spammer activities to a great extent.

haha thats impossible boss , for that we need around 500 mods :P , and calling via skype or msn or yahoo , all things r really not needed :P as spammers r not a problem mate , mods r really good here , and they knw there work , its not the topic to focus on , main topic is to extend Wj , but just simple and cleanly :))

Just like to know why are you against donations?
 
^^ why dont we use two groups 1 group of donations and group of earnt members

ok tell who is really earnt here in Wj to have Respected Member and Respected Coder and why are they earnt that?

apart from Mind Freakâ„¢, Lock Down, SJshah and humour who helps members here in Wj rest of them i hardly see the helping other members am i right?
 
I suggest more sections like coding with sub-sections (PHP,HTML,CSS,C++) and Seperate section for bloggers, seperate area for competitions in which you can get free SEO consultance, or anything which would bring in new members. In short, wj should be more organized and webmaster oriented.

@ the side VIP discussion to this topic:
When you have a group that pays for a rank you feel obliged as a respected coder to help people who pay to support a site. Yes I'm easily influenced and do feel under pressure more to help VIP members than ordinary members on other sites and don't see how WJ would be different. I believe such a position shouldn't be purchased but instead earned on a site (that's sites in general not just WJ).

I always want to feel pushed or influenced to help people who deserve and not pay for it.
 
Wow awesome ideas guys!

Let me elaborate a bit more on what i`m thinking here.

First of all WJ is awesome as is, and i`m not trying to "clean it out" by removing the most common and obvious stuff WJ is known for, but rather to expand, and maybe get here more people who deal with different stuff BESIDES uploading, aka affiliate marketing, maybe SEO pros, more designers/programmers. i`m sure we can make WJ most attractive forum and even the so called "warez" guys can learn a trick or 2.

I Mean we are all hunger for knowledge and new ways & tactics of money making, and it doesn't have to be all bad, lots of kids here who run the type of sites stated above will grow out of it and can learn actual and awesome ways to evolve online and to diversify into way more fields of the online business.

Eventually what i`m trying to say we are a very good and big forum, we will work on better rules to make sure stuff like NSFW threads isn't posted if the users don't like it.

and we can actually code a system for people to verify their sites with WJ, so for example people can do like in google webmaster tools put wj.txt on their server and "verify" as webmaster of certain website and so on, there is tons of cool stuff to be done and it`s awesome to see you guys contributing to this.

So thanks again and keep those ideas coming.
