How to start my own image hosting service?

Could anyone please advice me on how to start my own image hosting service?

Are there any free image hosting scripts available?

What type of server will I need - VPS or dedicated?

I checked the demo of both the scripts and it seems neither of them don't has a image thumbnail generation option?

Chevereto 1.x has thumbnails and you can enable / disable it by just commenting one line or so.

There are a ton of image hosting scripts that are open source & free. If you want to start a web hosting image site then you'll need a server either a powerful VPS or low end dedicated server. Install all software needed and then start advertising and worrying about DMCA notices depending on what kind of images your viewers and uploading.
