Yup, you see it right in the title. Pretty simple, how do you choose a webhost for your website?

What are the important factors do you check in a webhost?

Go ahead, post your answers.

It'd certainly help a lot of webhosts and clients over here :)

My answer btw,

I would choose them based on their age (how long they're in the market), their reviews and ofcourse, the price and location.

But the most important thing for me is the Age of a webhost, so i'd certainly go with a webhost that has survived for a long time in this competitive arena.

If it's free or not.

Am only joking lol.

Errrrr, i do abit of researching like google, read some threads, might even go on livechat see what they can reply with etc.

it really depends on what i'm doing.

if i want to do this for an existing site with lot's of users i normally do the following
search google / wjunction for a host
read the threads
check if they are older than 2 Years
check threads on other forums
go to their Site and see if it looks professional.
if a livechat is online, i'll ask a few things.

if i'm searching for a host that i'll use to test s.th. i normally just go down to the hosting-section and read a few stikies, check a few threads an perhabs ask the for a quote or recommondations.
so even if i don't get a good host, it's not a big loss, since it's just for testing.
if a site goes live, i'll normally move to another host.

If your account says "Multiple Add-On Domains", it should support adding an extra domain to your current hosting. :)

Age only go with host that have been running a min of 6 months
Reviews
Server Location if your into Warez best countries for warez sites NL RU RO
If you run a warez site stay away from host with servers from OVH
Stay away from host that offer a lot of bandwidth for really cheap
Website design better design the more likely the person who runs the host is more knowledgeable about what they are doing
Ask if the the host has any security in place to deal with hackers or a ddos attack

Yes how much old the company is & what the reviews against the hosting company.

These matters takes very good effect while choosing the right host for you.

Im speaking from 2 points of view when i first started in webmastering.

Beginning
1. Spoke to other webmasters with experience for reviews
2. Found out what not to look for (unlimited, unmetered, high gb)
3. Tried out trials before paying

After (experienced)
1. Did not rely on public reviews as most are little to non experienced users, But did ask more experienced users for reviews.
2. Spoke to person in charge of servers or close to it to clearly see if they have any idea of what they are doing.
3. Tested trial for speed, vulnerability, script support (never rely on ad's or public statements) or had someone reliable do so.
4. Find the non-active and overly active support. (no support means no help, and overly active means trying to produce the look of your service while giving shit answers especially if the host is ran by only one person.)
5. Looked for services which were older then 2 years with no financial issues. (downtimes happen and cannot be stopped, but if due to financials then its not reliable)
6. Services like shared with way too many features including things which can only be used on a vps or better. (website response can be fast, but whats the point when you have images uploaded and cannot load them all due to ffmpeg or others causing I/O to burn)
