First, any lawyer can get your ass out of there, death is a certain, but the number isn't, and this decision saves some lives, and you still think you will be guilty ?

Second, that person has a family!!!!! are you kidding me ? The rest Don't have families as well ? I didn't say he doesn't deserve to live, or I have the choice who should live, it's about the right thing to do.

If there is an army, and that army has the duty to protect 2 cities, one of them has like 10 million civilian, and the other has 50 million, which city should the army protect if he doesn't have the time to protect both ?

It's common sense, and accusing them ( the army soldiers ) as murderers are out of mind, Dot

I'm out of this discussion, as I can see a lot of you care about his life the most, not about others' as well

When did I say the rest didnt have families?

If that occasion comes up to you in life I would love to see what you would do,seriously.

And any lawyer can you out of that? seriously?

and you cant compare this to the army, the army is protected by the GOVT.

No lawyer could get you off this. It's murder. No civilian has the right to decide who lives and who dies lol stop thinking with your ass and making up laws.

Like bxflow said, if I flip the switch to save the the 4 people I will still kill 1 person and it will be a great loss to his family. They wouldn't care if I saved 4 people in place of him. I would rather try to stop the trolley in some way, maybe by putting something on it's way or w.e. If I decide to flip the switch, in case no option remains, I will still feel guilty for being responsible for the death of that one person.
If there's no way to stop the trolley I will only wish I weren't present there. :P

Since this is all hypothetical

I would pull off my clothes and have my superman suit on. Now I can decide to fly and pick up the 6 people, or stop the train with my super strength.

The real surprising thing with this story is the factors involved. This was polled to a very large audience. People were able to pull the switch, shifting the train from killing filling, to only one. However, when their own hand had to do the pushing, a push that would directly lead to the fatality of the man...they did not think they would be able to do so.

Its basically the same situation, only in one instance you pull a switch...while the other your really killing someone.

Legally, eh, lets leave that out of this. This is a situation with no legal toll. I mean, I would hope the man standing there would be willing to save the others as well. Maybe he'll sorta fall while I pretend to push?

1- Screw laws, use common sense, which end you prefer ?

2- But you are there, and if you humanity can live with such decision, then I'm sorry for you. And btw, if everybody ain't adding anything good for this world, what is the use of their exist ? what is the purpose of their living ?<_<

3- Doesn't the rest deserve a dinner with their family as well ? 5 of them, not one :|

I wasn't talking about laws I was talking about my religious beliefs. I choose not to kill. In all reality though this scenario can be avoided. As I stated before you can hear a train/trolly coming from a good distance away and feel it in the tracks as well. There would be plenty of time to get everyone off the tracks. In the event that it was impossible yes i'd probably take one mans life in replace for 5.

I almost guarantee you'd get off this. The jury would be the ultimate decision makers and they would most likely feel for you and understand that you were saving lives either way it went.

I'd switch on my handycam, record the death scene and would sell it to some media company for huge bucks.Oh yeah, who cares, they all have to die today or tomorrow XD So better let them die today and enjoy.

Thats like saying if you saw Osama Bin-Laden and you put a bullet in his head you haven't murdered him The Jury's feelings or not it would take a whole load of cash to find yourself a lawyer that would get you off with it!

Like someone else said, No person can decide who lives or dies... if your in your car hurdling towards a crowd of people, Miss 500 but happen to kill 1 of them, its the same scenario but different setting your still going away for Murder/Manslaughter.

So i would walk away... Let them die... And the big guy... Well id hope he didn't consider throwing me in front of it! heh

If you killed Osama, you'd be represented for free as that would be major publicity.
I love how the topic changes so frequently in a single thread.

Like someone said already, no civilian should the one to decide who lives or dies, that is not up to you. Let's say that 1 worker was you, would you like if someone killed you to save the other workers... no time to say goodbye to your loved ones or anything....?
