This is just VNC right? Looks like VNC to me. Just making sure this isn't something different, if it is, I will definitely try. Do you know how much ram is required? ..Nvm 500 to 700 burst in mb.

No its not vnc. A different software nxServer and nx client are used. They are reputed to perform faster than vnc.RAM required will definitely be >512 guaranteed or your processes may get killed.Recommended Guaranteed RAM is 512 and burst RAM >700.

Which part you are stuck at. At that red iM that appears after you login ? If it that red iM written on black background, wait it to load, it might take some time. If it is something else , post any screen shot so i may help you .

EDIT: you might also want to try fluxbox+VNC, more lightweight
