Well after 6 long years in development and loads of rumors Google Drive the online cloud hosting is finally live. It's a lot like Dropbox for people who know that but has the advantage of some fantastic search features. Google can identify images and their content so lets say you take a picture of your pet dog Google recognize it and then you can just search for dog and the picture will appear.

Google Drive has lots of other cool features too. It can recognize 30 different file types. Standard ones like jpeg, gif, png images, word, excel, pdf and all the other standard ones but it can even show Photoshop and Indesign files which is incredibly useful even if your computer doesn't have Photoshop installed.

Another fantastic feature is it supports OCR. This means if you have a scanned document or a pdf Google and recognize the text in the document allowing you to search for it so if you receive a PDF ebook or invoice you can search for that by the text contained in that document instead of trying to remember the file name or when you uploaded or received it.

You can install the windows, mac and android software with the iPhone and iPad probably waiting approval from Apple so they will be another 2-3 weeks later like how the Google+ iOS app arrived later. No news of a Windows Phone, Linux, Blackberry or other apps yet although they'll probably follow.

Check out the official site https://drive.google.com/

Upgrade to 25gbs for only $2.50 a month.... not bad.

Just wish we could get some bonus for referring people like dropbox has.

Nothing is ready for India on the launch date. <_< I hate it X-(!
Many Indian technocrats work at Google and other web giants and still we are considered a third world country.

nice update just after msn , hehe

btw its not release to use in Pakistan yet.

Ya these things can take a while to roll out. They are updating all Gmail accounts from 7.5GB to 10GB today as well and they said it would take 24 hours for all accounts to update.

Forget this garbage. Access requires a proprietary client. Where are open, standard protocols which don't require unvetted Google software to be trusted with power over our computers?

K. I finally got GDrive installed.

Review: The app is pretty lame. Doesn't show transfer rate and how long it will take to complete uploading. I only threw on 4 ebooks (.pdf) and couldn't be viewed through browser. Thats one feature I like about dropbox, I can view .pdf's page by page without actually downloading the whole book. Overall though its pretty simple. Just install and throw all the stuff you want into the Google Drive folder.

Also found a few bugs. If you create a folder through the browser or move files to a folder. There is no folder created and files dont move in GDrive app.

But, its just a start. Should expect more to come soon.

Edit: ok well uploading took a long ass time. But could be cuz its just came out and everyone should be using it like mad for testing. and after everything was uploaded it then started syncing folders and files.
