A successful website must be easy to navigate, Regularly updated, Always offer something new and fresh time to time like WJ do, Must have certain rules to be followed, Not heavily montized, Most importantly a successful websites must have smart and friendly staff. "Content is the king" so, Yes, A successful website must have exact that content that users are looking for! :-?

A successful website should have following quality features
1.has a nice domain name (a domain is an entry door for any successful site)
2.good cms i.e wordpress,drupal etc
3.have got some good layout & design
4.social activities
5.friendly reply in comments
6.make new user to participate in active commenting
7.and good seo techniques for crawlers
8.special announcement can me made such as page rank,give away
9.site loads in optimized speed
10.and finally content of the site regularly updated :)
 
A successful site first of all should have a nice management. The admin and the staff should be active within the community and ensure that rules are followed and if being violated then should take necessary actions. Next is content. The content of the site should be updated regularly and should be written from scratch rather than copy and paste from from other websites.Apart from this rules should be followed strictly and staff should ensure that they are being followed. And also the site should have good and quality content and not few liners content.I feel these are few important things and good site should have.

Also the navigation of the website should be easy and simple and not complex as no one like a site with complex navigation. Also website admin should also pay attention to website hosting as users of the site doesn't want their favourite site to be down often.

A successful is the one which has a lot of visitors, the main aim we create a site is to attract users on it, so no matter how is it , and ow good it is , if it doesn't have users it's nothing.

So any website having a lot of visitors , it's successful. :)
 
A successful site should have a unique content which makes different from most of webpages over the internet, content must be relevant in what visitor is interested to see. A beautiful and unique logo, easy navigation of interface and a good staff filtering spammers are the key of making a successful website.

A good site should have good content first and foremost, because that's what drives people to the website. After that it depends on how the content is organised and how good and usable its design is. Apart from that, a good site should be properly SEO'd and should have an active webmaster.
