I sold an AMC Movie Theater Gift Card for $46. (It was valued at $50) The guy paid, and I sent it... all was going normal. Then...

1. He claimed he never got it. (This happens...okay) I sent a couple of emails... talked to paypal, and they took his side since I didn't have a tracking number. They sided with him.

2. I went to find his contact info on his ebay account, and he deleted his account. (kinda fishy)

3. I started emailing by his paypal email... telling him that I sent it, and I wasn't paying him back the $46 since I sent it to the correct address.

4. After a few emails, he deleted his email account.

Now I have a negative balance in my paypal (they gave the money back, after I spent it). And I have no way to contact this guy. Any advice?

Erm to be honest I have also had several problems with Paypal in the past. I also ended up with a negative balance on a permanently limited account. If you don't pay it they will send you a letter which is more serious (I got one) and then decided to pay. The only thing ive learned from it is just NOT to use paypal anymore. There are several alternatives, moneybookers/ePassporte/...

ebay owns paypal, so send the ebay people a email saying you got scammed by the user and its reflecting badly on your paypal account see what they say. I would also send a complaint to paypal cause they have wrongfully charged you for no reason. See where it leads

make sure you tell them that the guy who brought the card is not replying to emails and has deleted his ebay account they should see with luck that you are being genuine

Alright, I will give that a go Marstons... I am just hoping that this all clears up as I don't have the cash to pay this back. Thanks for all your advice. Its just a sticky situation.

Yeah, just keep tracking numbers next time, for now you cannot do anything further and you need to pay paypal.

Already have this problem on ebay, after provided tracking numbers the claim was solved to non-founded and keep the money involved.

i buy/sell around 1000$ week on ebay and never get any problem so far.

Ah, see I just sent it in a normal envelope so I never needed to get a tracking number. I guess I learned my lesson there.. thanks for your input though xmsax.

How long did it have a negative balance until they started sending you letters? I've had a PayPal with negative $1k for the past 6 months and I've gotten no letters.

Hey bro, here's the only way to deal with this guy (who ripped you off).

Find his user ID from Ebay, then google it. Hopefully it's unique enough that you will find other forum accounts from him, maybe even other auction sites, whatever. Find his contact information, look him up on facebook -- don't disclose who you are.

Play his own game -- you get the idea. You could even pretend to be a hot girl (create some fake account, get a fake pic) and lure him to get your money back that way (sell him something).

And of course, from now on, keep your tracking numbers!

LOL @ Little Dragon's post, hey if all else fails try that rofl. Anyway good luck, this is why I hat paypal :( They've been holding my 300 bucks for a year now :(

Perfect! :D You have some creative advice... although I am not one to play dirty. I am going to just wait for the collection agency to come to my door unless I can get $3 more in my adsense (for the $100 cashout) to pay off paypal.

This is basically just a $50 life lesson for me. haha
