Here's a tool, I've been using for quite a long time now.

It's called http://downforeveryoneorjustme.com useful for checking if the site is actually down or it's just you that can't access it.

They are pretty cool, but i honestly would just rather ask a friend "Hey, is my site up for you". lol

That's a problem for a guy like myself as I don't have friends. But that site is better than those useless threads being opened with 'Oh, site X is down'.

This site is not that accurate I have used it when my forum was down a few times and it told me my forum was up. It is better to ping the sites or ask 2 friends to see if they can get the site to load

lol. That's another great way. Unfortunately I don't have many friends. So in that case it probably wouldn't do me much good.
