This is both a discussion and a poll so feel free to vote or reply.

A post by another member got me thinking about USB Flash sticks. You know those tiny devices you plug into a computer and hold about 5GB.

I remember a few years ago in college everyone used them. All your work was saved on them and I owned a few which all had daily use. I don't even own one anymore and haven't used one in 2-3 years thanks to file hosts like the early days of Rapidshare and now cloud computing companies like dropbox, iCloud, Google Documents etc.

So do you still own a USB stick but if you do is it lying in a drawer gathering dust? If you own one when was the last time you used it?

Yes, using them for some time.

As internet is not there every where in my country, hence cloud computing and filehosts really dont help much.

USB sticks are pretty much my every day friend these days :)

The Internet prices are too high here to use a good connection. 4MB/s is considered a very nice connection for home use. Then 8MB is like "Wow, you have 8MB connection, man you are wasting your money" (I wouldn't say that though) xD
There is also a 50MB connection but way too expensive for home use, and is meant for Business uses/Small Companies.
So, people here hardly use or even know about the filehost here.

So, yes. Still using USB Flash drives. I have 3. 4GB, 8GB and 16GB.
4GB is plugged in the car for music (Sometimes). And the rest is for moving data around with me.

Interesting. Looking at early voting it's pretty close and either a case where people don't own or use them or the opposite and use them regularly like every day or week. Their isn't much middle ground.

I have a couple and the only reason i use them now is to put linux on it if i need to re-install

I use dropbox for transferring files to people / other computers

I still have a couple of 4GB sticks. Haven't used them in years. Infact I bought them in the first place just to install Windows 7 because my laptop's DVD Writer went defunct and I wasn't gonna replace it. I sometimes use the second one as a plug and play Live Linux USB drive.

Just don't see the use for it since everyone has internet and its more convenient to upload to mediafire. Infact that's how I have been submitting project work to uni profs.

Well they are very handy for work , im a computer tech so i have to have something to carry my files with me

i have 9 of them . they are very handy still in my field
