Even if you don't believe, IMO, you should respect other peoples' choice. But that, as an inside atheist joke, is pretty funny =D
You dont need a "god" or religion to have principles. Religion and it's "principles" are nothing that couldn't be made up by a human beign.
Sorry but that's just plain stupid; forcing yourself to believe something you don't, just in case.
All I believe is that thousands of years ago. Fiction stories were created and because they were so popular, it's been talked about for years but the part where it's been twisted is the fiction.
Religion is just for people who are scared of life/death so they want to believe there will be better for them in the afterlife. To people who say Religion makes a better society, that's just ignorant. If muslim wasn't a religion then 9/11, many other terrorist attacks would never of happened and the Brits and Americans wouldn't be at war with the taliban and al asad.

World war 1 and world war 2 weren't religiously motivated wars and there the most devastating wars in history. :s
Crazy people always need an excuse to kill each other, so if religions didn't exist there would still be terrorists attacks and wars. I mean only a person with serious mental issues can think smashing planes into skyscrapers and killing innocent people would please god.

Read into WW1, and WW2, they were started for political reasons. WW1 was because of alliances and WW2 was because of germany trying to take over europe.
But having read through that list it seems most are border disputes, you have yet to show me a war which was started mainly by religion. A war started by religion is when the country attacks another country purely because the other country has members of another religion in it, not because they want their land.
Nobody starts wars out of religion they start it because they want land, power, money they then use religion to motivate the soldiers.

I don't remember if there has been any war because of religion. Anything closest to a war due to religion would be a civil war but then it is also not directly because of religion, it arises because of social inequalities.

Israel vs Palestinian conflict is totally from religious believes ( Jews own lots and lots of wealth all over the world, and they have powers to make other countries to support them, and they can buy whole countries and lands, but even thou, they chosed Palestine, for a reason ) .
Muslims wars ( in the far past ) were based on Religious principles, never was the money, never was controlling over.
But still, as u mentioned before, Germans started a war ( even when they were in a war ) with Russians cause they want lands /controlling the world and clearing the worlds from any other species other than Germans.
America war on Iraq is half religious half ( won't explain here cause this thread went far away from it's original purpose ) controlling on Oils sources and maybe Bush want to make his fathers dream to come true.
And I'm saying here, if religions didn't exist, Humans will stay on their nature of greed, mean, and loving to control.
and there still others who use religions as excuses for what they do.
Nope, that conflict is purely a land dispute. We british used to own palestine and then gave it to the jews who needed a country of their own, the palestinians then got pissed off that their land was stolen and used religion motivation to try and get it back (suicide bombers).
